boost out of control, and no pills to be found...

My car is a 93, it was built in July of 92 actually. This should mean that I have pills in my lines, but when my engine replacement was done my mechanic put all silicone hoses on, and put no pills in the lines to the waste gates.

Recently I installed a downpipe, and my boost started spiking to around 15 lbs. This obviously is not good.

So I made a Home Depot boost controler, but when I went to put it on I noticed no pills, and my boost controler, when set all the way open doesn't do anthing, I still see 13-15 lbs of boost.

So I moved on to the pre-control line, and again it had no pills, which, if I under this correctly, should mean that I would be getting low boost.

I didn't put a controler in because anything in the line would just add restriction and therefore increase my boost/spiking, correct?

So, what the hell can be the problem?

Furthermore, woudl just installing the PFC and setting my boost to 10 with that solve my boost problems?

A few ideas: you have newer turbos that you didn't know about, the hoese to the actuators are split or reversed, or there is a problem with the solenoids. Hope that helps

What do you mean by reversed?

Thanks for the input.

In other words, the solenoids and/or vacuum lines may not be connected properly, but then again, you said the problem only came up after you installed the DP, right?

Really, unless you have checked all your hoses and verified your solenoids are not sticking and working perfectly, then your next best bet will be to drill out the nipples on the turbos where the vacuum lines attach to. This will allow you to use the Home Depot Racing Valve to be able to better control your boost.

No, the lines are definately not crossed.

What is wierd is that I was seeing 10 lbs of boost PRIOR to the DP install, yet I had no pills at that time.

I have not verified that my solenoids are not sticking or working perfectly, but how do I check that? I mean the waste gate solenoids right?

Lastly, if I install an electronic boost controler, or use the PFC, will it be able to properly regulate my boost even though my Home Depot controller is currently not working? I understand that the PFC controls the waste gate itself.

I can't figure out why I was getting 10 lbs of boost before my DP install with no pills. I am positive that the origional turbos are in the car, I mean I know that I never had them changed and I bought the car from a Mazda dealership with 50K miles and they gave me all the service records and there was noting about turbo replacement so I should not have pills in the nipples.

You have to pressure test them while applying power to them with a hand held vacuum pump like the one from Mighty Vac that has a gauge on it. In the fully open position, it should be free flow, and in the closed position, it shouldn't allow any air to pass through at all. This wouldn't be the first time I have heard of someone with a bad solenoid, and one of the guys near me replaced his, and boost was as good as new :)

Yeah, but check em all while you are there.

The PFC uses the factory solenoids to regulate boost. If the solenoid is shot, then going to the PFC won't do you any good for the moment. You CAN always buy the boost control upgrade kit. It comes with a new one.

You are flowing a LOT better now. Don't forget that. Sometimes, without the nipples, the system can generate between 9-10psi with the stock precat and cat. Things get funky after the DP is installed :p:
