Boost loss at 3200 RPM, any ideas why?
It occurs when applying heavy throttle. At lighterthrottle, it smoothly goes through 3200. With heavy throttle, the car accelerates up to 3200, where it suddenly loses a lot of power. Once past this event, the high RPM turbo kicks in enormously (like I'm used to).
Any help would be appreciated. My next step is to bring it to the dealer, but I really don't want to! Thanks in advance - Tom |
dude same problem, but i feeling liek only 1 turbo is spooling . it doesnt spool as hard as when i frist got it. i dont nkow why either if you figure it out let me know our problems might not be the same but it's similar

mine is making power on both turbos but...there is a really weird sound...like if u can imagine taking a balloon and letting the air out but pinching on the neck..that is kinda what it sounds like...im thinkin a vac line or somethin....hope it aint on of my snails....!!!
|
Are you sure this isn't the 3k stumble you are feeling?
|
I've never had the 3k hesitation 1) above 3k, or 2) on heavy throttle.
Got a boost gauge Tom? They are very cheap and simple to install. Just any pressure gauge and a 4mm or 1/8" rubber hose is all you need. There are about a million possible failure points in your turbo control system, and the boost pattern is very telling. Dave |

"Once past this event, the high RPM turbo kicks in enormously (like I'm used to)"..
Did anyone notice this part of the statement? Not a leak problem but a transition problem. Turbo transition relies on two systems working together; Vacuum and Pressure. One of these is not working properly. |
Do you have a boost gauge? I thought I was having a 3k hez until I installed mine and found out I was hitting the 14psi fuel cut. Luckly I have cooling mods done instead of power mods.

farnumen have you got ur problem sorted? i have exactly the same...as described in the first post..dont know what it is tho :(
|
I have this exact same problem right now too. It sounds like its a boost leak but its not, because the secondary turbo boosts fine. This only happens during heavy immediate throttle up till the secondary turbo takes over.
I am pretty fixed on it being vacuum leak somewhere near or under the vacuum box or under the upper intake manifold. I will let you guys know if I find out what the problem is tomorrow when i take the shit apart. |
hey, new to the forum, but not new to the FD. bought my second in february, a '93 R1. i am recently having the same "air leaking from a pinched balloon" problem when the secondary kicks in. it came on about a week ago after taking off in first, then to about 5000 RPM in second. i have spent the past few days searching and reading, trying to figure this thing out. figured i was alone, until i found this thread! boost pattern is about an 11-9-6... doesnt seem to affect driveability, but is incredibly annoying. under heavy throttle, the sound will start right around 4500 RPM. after letting off, boost will slowly build to about 4psi. unless i clutch in, shift or coast down to lower than 3000 RPM, i can not get more than the 4psi. any help i could get would be appreciated. first boost leak with the new(er) FD... THANKS!
mods: greddy fmic, intake, elbow w/ bov flange efini y-pipe koyo racing rad downpipe catback PFC i have a hose kit, waiting for time to work on it... maybe that'll solve my problem... :wallbash: |
took off the secondary intake piping and felt around for loose connections, and found one of the bolts on the exhaust pipe from secondary turbo to y-pipe loose. anyway, if you find you have the whole "air escaping from a pinched balloon" sound, it's boost leaking past the o-ring on your y-pipe...

I have the same problem. At first the car started loosing power, and now the turbos dont work AT ALL. after about 2200 I hear a big SHWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO as if it just blows out somewhere and the car is chocking. Also for some reason I noticed my rear defroster light goes on after driving in the heat for over an hour, or so... and my exhaust is scolding. I bought this fd a month ago, and ive never dealt with rotary before... how I find my boost leak, and a suggeston on exhaust / transmission would be great. anything really the search engine on this forum is horrible.
|
fixed... I took off all the vacuum hoses, and o-rings and cleaned them and put them on with proper tightness. The car started running ALOT better, and now boosts like it did before.
|
very common issue...try the search im sure ull find a million topics on this...:icon_tup: gluck

i went through http://www.autosportracetech.com/RX-7/rx7stuff.htm
spend some time reading and trying to find out what the problem was, just taken my air pump off again to check all the hoses on actuators,(and replace 4 more - apart from those with pills) had a look on my y-pipe, couplers,IC pipes, small vaccum hoses from CRV, CCV u name it.... styil have a problem - i want to set this car on fire... |
check on top of ur air control valve there is a seleniod with 2 small vac. lines on it ohm it out, should be no more than aprox. 34 part #ending in 741 very common for them to be bad and cuase turbo issues
|
sorry mate but i dont get this bit:
34 part #ending in 741 ?? |
