boost gauge lighting wire

Heard of some guys using the ashtray light but with possible problems because of the dimmers.

How about the cig lighter light? Has anyone used this? Open for suggestions.

This is for a Defi mechanical gauge 1 black and 1 white wire.

Thanks....Scott

MY mechanic uses the ashtray light wire with no problems

how about just hooking it up to a fuse that has power when you turn your parking lights on? thats what i did, turn the key on, get a tester and find a fuse that has power when the lights go on.

I just posted a "how-to" sort of photo album at this link. I wired mine into the ashtray which was very easy and ended up being very clean.

P.S. Light bulbs will light in both directions so as long as you have a potenial difference across the filement it will light. I'm not sure which wire is ground/power in the ashtray and just picked on to be each, it will work either way.

I use the ash tray light. Works great with dimmers. Use an in line splice. No need to cut the wires.

yeah for the dimmer to work run both wires to the ash tray light. If you ground one wire and connect the other to the light it will work but won't dim.

I also went to the ashtray light for my gauges. Look great and dim when my other lights dim. Easy place to get to as well.

I've been warned not to attach a wire to a ground like a the chassis, but instead to run one wire to each of the two wires leaving the light.
