Is this boost gauge good?
 

I just got my d-series boost gauge.

But it doesn't point to 0 psi.

Is it normal?

Yeah, that sucks, my old boost gauge used to do that, I have issues with gauges. I ended up selling mine and just use my commander, no gauges whatsoever.

That's a good boost gauge. Just that the one you got is broken.:pity: exchange it for a new one.

Don't you have to apply power to those for them to go to 0 psi?

is that the electronic or mechanical one? i thought it was the mechanical but if im wrong and it is the electronic put some power to it and see what happens :)

You scared me! I just got my Defi D boost gauge too and I went to to check it after I read your post since I'd waited over 2 months for it to come in. *Whew*, right at 0. :D

The mail man probably dropped the package hard. I remember dropping a mechanical boost gauge and the needle moved away from zero. I tapped the gauge on the floor to move the needle back to "0" and the gauge worked perfectly. I tested it against 2 other gauges and it was just as accurate. That gauge still reads good and I "fixed" over a year ago.

Is your gauge mechanical or electric? The electric ones dont go to zero when theres no power. If its electric, try hooking up the power for it and see what happens. Defi gauges test themselves on startup for any errors. Otherwise just exchange it.

For those asking, Defi's d-series boost gauges are mechanical. Many who sell them assume they're electric like the Link series are.

I called RX7 store and asked about it when I first got it and they said its normal for it to be like that when the car is off.

Is there anyway to fix this? Does tapping it work. Because I do notice its a bit off comapred to my Spec II boost controller.

mine is a wee bit off too but not as bad as those shown here. I bought defi because I thought it was supposed to be one of the more quality gauges available.:mad:

most electronic gauges can be adjusted, not sure about defi, but the blitz one is.

It has to read higher than zero, no? There's atmospheric pressure that should make it register above zero, provided it's a mechanical guage. I'm at work, I'll check mine when I get home.

thats sucks. who makes a nice electonic gauge that measures psi instead of bar then. i thought this was gonna be the one.

The Defi Link series are all electronic gauges with peak/hold, warning, and over a minute of recording. Most of them are available in english units.

you get used to bar... I have the blitz dc gauge and LOVE it... i have it suction cupped to my window... ill post a pic, its really neat!

Well, 0 should technically read at 29.93inHG. If it's higher, then it will read higher.

At 2 PSI, it should be about 4inHG higher. I doubt you're at 33inHG there. You're probably off.

your lucky... my autometer is messed up (nitrous gauge).. and just about every autometer boost gauge i have seen has been about 2 psi off.

Take your pick. :) Since you're shopping, the Link series has green backlighting only, but that's the only drawback when comparing the two (and price).



BTW, it's been said a million times before, but I'll say it again to alleviate any hypochondriasis. A *little* variance in the "zero point" is acceptable since the local air pressure varies by elevation & temperature. In the extreme case, say 1000ft below sea level and 0 degF out, you'll only see ~15.3psi absolute, so the gauge would show only .6 psi. Of course, analog gauges, even the ones that pretend to have a fully linear scale have an inherent error that varies depending on the current value.

The ~1psi on mitch's and ~3.5psi on pjh97's (especially) look out of spec though. Sorry guys.
