Boost exhaust cut out valve
I was thinking about getting this and just wanted to know your opinions

Why not just a basic electric cut out? It's cheaper all you have to do is flip a switch http://www.bmotorsports.com/shop/pro...oducts_id/1480

im going with the ap performance cut out as it has the perfect angle on the same route the exhaust is going. Except im going to install the boost controller on the ap cut out valve

you could also try Apexi's ECV, which goes directly into the exhaust, so not really a cut out.

i was liking the apex ecv that goes into the exhaust the only thing is that i would have to put some restrictions so that it wouldnt close all the way. Ill keep you guys posted. Think this would benefit us all by having our cars a little quieter

exhaust control valves quiet the flow by restricting it. Apex'i's ECV uses a solid plate and cable system so that you can "tune out" the noise when cruising. They do make an electric motor setup for it but iirc it was ridiculously expensive. I did not want to pay for the apex'i setup so i designed my own valve that is either fully open or closed that has a plate with holes in it. I have made a few for people on this forum. It allows you to setup how much exhaust flow you want and forget about it. On my personal car i have a solid plate that routes exhaust gases through a small restrictive muffler. I did this because i wanted more exhaust flow with the butterfly closed. I am considering pulling out the valve body and switching to a butterfly similar to the one shown below but with more holes. I have a feeling that this will accomplish the same thing but with less weight.
One forum member with a bridgeported rx8 said that it got his car to near stock noise levels (his exhaust is so restrictive that he can not boost with the valve shut). On my setup i get about a 7 dB reduction in noise levels (this has 4.9 square inches of flow vs <0.1 square inches shown in the picture) and i can still get a few pounds of boost. http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x...3/IMG_1351.jpg I made a controller box for mine that allows you to open/shut the valve by applying +12v to a wire when i want the valve open and removing it when i want it closed (it sends a pulse of power for X seconds and shuts off and does the same thing with the polarity reversed when +12v is applied to the trigger wire). I will eventually hook this wire to a boost switch. |
