boost controller question

Has anyone ran intake/mp/dp/catback and only used a boost controller to control the boost spike? If so how well does it work? I don't want to worry about swapping my ecu back due to smog in a couple of months.

You can only raise boost with a boost controller, not lower it. Overboosting is a physical/mechanical issue with wastegate proportion.

Actually if you hook up the boost controller correctly you can achieve 7psi max boost by turning off you boost controller so technically you can lower the boost. It also depends what type of boost controller and brand name. My blitz sbc-id controller works like a charm. When I take it to the shop I turn off the boost controller so that they can't have too much fun.

To answer your question the blitz sbc-id boost controller you can set how fast the wastegate opens thus creating the size of spike you want. But I would port the waste gate asap to prevent any boost creep or uncontrollable spiking due to cooler weather.

true but if the exhaust comes in faster than the wastegate can dump (because its too small) then you will spike regardless of the spring weight.

Boost controllers are for solving boost spike issues
Porting the "waste gate" is for boost creep issues

I agree with both montego and fritz. Just port the waste gate anyway because you will need to in the near future.
