which boost controller to buy?
 

i am about to order a boost controller in the next couple of days. i was wondering if there were some that i should avoid. and i will be purchasing the power fc in about a month. would this limit my choices?

pfc has its own boost controlling capabilities but one of the best boost controllers that I have heard of is the 'greddy profec b'

No... no... Blitz SBC-Id. It has a built in Boost gauge...
So it can monitor your levels... depending on Air temps you'll differents amounts of boost.

It has a built in "Warning setting" to control second turbo spikes as well.

And a cool Boost graph to let you know exactly how consistant your boost levels are.

The Profec B is definately the most popular choice. The PFC will control boost for you, but it tends to not control boost as well as a seperate boost controller. Another option is the AVC-R which I prefer.

rx-7ml, could you share your thoughts on why you like the AVC-R better than the Profect B? I'm planning on getting the profect in the near future but would love to hear more thoughts on the AVC-R too.

What people fail to realize though is that the PFC boost control is nothing more than an Apexi AVC-R:D

then why do people have it.it has got to be doing something good

Maybe with the optional boost controller. The PFC uses the stock solenoids to control boost, the AVC-R, as well as any of the others uses it's own solenoids to control boost. Many people have complained about the boost control accuracy and stability of the PFC. I haven't seen anybody complain about the AVC-R.

Get the Blitz ID boost controller. It is probably the best controller out on the market. If you want to run sequentially this is the boost controller for you. You can adjust how fast the wastegate will open therefore limiting the boost spike in the transition. If you have an open exhaust (dp, mp, cb) then this boost controller will work beautifully. You don't have to put in the restricter plate in the exhaust to create back pressure so that you don't get huge boost spikes. I was having this problem before with the HKS EZ pile of shit boost controller causing me to blow my engine because of a huge boost spike. Anyway the boost gauge on the Blitz controller is more accurate then you mechanical boost gauge (Autometer.....). The machanical boost gauge is off by almost 1psi at low boost (under 10 psi) and 0.5 psi by 14.7 psi. So if you are tuning your car according to your mechanical boost gauge then you might be over boosting.

Depends on what is done to your car. The ProfecB isnt much more complicated than manual boost controller. Its easy to use, reliable, easy to install, and cheap. But it lacks some features of the other controllers. The blitz controller is probably the best for the stock twins in sequinatial mode becuase of the dual solinoids, which basically means its two boost controllers in one.

This gives you alot more fine control over both turbos.

does that mean u can't use it for a single turbo upgrade.

I noticed how a lot of people just post "SBC id" or "Profec B" without explination or experience. Thanks to those of you who take the time to write a decent sentence or two about why they prefer one or the other.
I too am in the market for a controller, but I'm not going on "get the CBBidPro", unless it's got some explanation with it.

Im sure you can use the Blitz with a single turbo, although something cheaper and simpler would be a better buy if you plan to go single very soon (or are already single).

The ProfecB is a great controller for stock single turbo cars. Couple of my friends have them on thier DSM's and they are dead simple to install and operate. They work well and reliably. I just question thier ability to control such a complex system as the FD turbos well. If you plan to stay sequintial you should really look into one of the dual solinoid controllers like the Blitz.

Is it hard to install the blitz unit? Hows it compare to installing the profecB?

I was going to go with profecB but now I am not sure.
I do plan on stayin sequential for a long time.
