boost control

well i took my car out for a drive today finally, and i am having a few problems. First off all my lights were flashing coming on then off wierd stuff which it is probly the alternator its pretty old. I did the damions twin boost controler setup. I had them both screwed all the way out so it should run off my waste gate spring or so i thought. I made a couple little pulls but didnt go full throttle cuz my boost was already going to 12psi. I have a pettit ecu and i ported my waste gate. I thought that it would only run 7 psi on the stock waste gate?? I really dont want to pop my motor, anyone have some suggestions???

thanks guys

any ideas????

I checked all my lines and everything seems fine why would i be overboosting when my mbc are all the way open? This makes no sense

moconnor Apr 1, 2009 11:33 PM

A possibility is that you put the controllers in backwards (possible for some types of MBCs).

yourmom23 Apr 1, 2009 11:37 PM

hmm maybe thats it i was pretty sure i got them the right way but i will have to double check thanks.

yourmom23 Apr 2, 2009 01:21 AM

Just switched the lines to the boost controlers, still no control its like playing with fire. I have a pettit ecu but still its scary. Can anyone think why i would be getting no control???

My waste gates had no problems before and all the lines seem to be just like damions im going to pm damion see if he has some ideas

pinkrx7 Apr 2, 2009 01:40 AM

No need to pm damian. If things were working fine before you changed your mbc set up and now it's over boosting, make sure you re-read his whole thread and double check you connected everything correctly. There were a lot of revisions to his original setup.

yourmom23 Apr 2, 2009 02:15 AM

I just read the whole thread again, when they are reffering to capping off they mean the two selinoids, that used to control the boost right.

Im thinking maybe my boost controlers spring is to heavy.

Would the ball moving around in there cause it to over boost, i will try just closing it till it stops jiggling in there maybe thats why it keeps overboosting.

I have checked everything and nothing seems out of place my only other option would be the waste gates are not opening corectly. So i think i am going to hook my lines up strait from my waste gate to my positive turbo preasure, if im not mistaken that should give me a solid 7psi, is that right??

Someone must have some insite on this

try unplugging both of your stock solenoids, the electric plug, not the vaccume hoses

Why would that change anything, if the vac lines arent hooked to anything? I dont know ill try it and see what happen. thanks

TpCpLaYa Apr 2, 2009 03:56 PM

An easy way to check is to take out both the boost controllers, and run empty (no pill) vacuum hoses to the actuators. Than cap of the otherside of the actuators(that normally run up to the stock solenoids)....you should now have no restrictions and the wastegate should open at 7lbs...if not you know you have a problem

Start there and then work in the boost controllers all the way open...if you overboost then there is a problem with the controllers

yourmom23 Apr 2, 2009 05:48 PM

Well i think i figured it out on damions main thread, it says to loop two hoses where the old stock selinoids used to connect too. I just capped them off and got my 7 psi hopfully this is it. Someone should change that thread for future refference

yourmom23 Apr 2, 2009 09:11 PM

OK well i went out to try to tune in my controlers for the 12 10 12, But everytime the secondary goes to kick in i get this wierd boost it goes like up and down really fast from like 10 to 8, its reallly jerky.

Im going to search and try to find someone with the same simptoms.

Any ideas welcome

yourmom23 Apr 2, 2009 09:19 PM

now that i think of it might just need fuel i was almost on empty and maybe when the secoundary kicked in all the fuel sloshed to the back of the tank and starved the pump.

yourmom23 Apr 2, 2009 10:44 PM

Come on guys i feel like im talking to myself, give me some tips please.

Im still having the same issue with my secoundary bucking like crazy, has someone had this happen to them???

Help a guy out
thanks

pinkrx7 Apr 2, 2009 11:08 PM

is it smooth is all other situations?

yourmom23 Apr 2, 2009 11:37 PM

Yeah it is pretty smooth till it hits the secoundary then i bucks like crazy i am using a pettit ecu so i dont think it could be fuel cutt. It does have a slight hesitation sometimes, seems normal to me

yourmom23 Apr 3, 2009 03:40 AM

Well i fixed the secoundary problem it stopped bucking, two vac lines were mixed up.

Anyhow I was wondering, i capped the waste gate on the drivers side and i was wondering if that was right. I still seem to be overboosting in the secoundary, but the first turbo is in check.

according to what I've seen that is right. Make sure it's a tight cap and not leaking. If it's leaking then you would not open the wastegate till later (overboost).

Have you tried taking the controller out completely and capping the other side of the actuator like I suggested earlier.

yourmom23 Apr 3, 2009 01:35 PM

Yeah i tried that seemed to hold 7psi all the way across. My caps are kinda crapy its hard to find good heavy duty caps at parts stores. I also think that maybe my boost controler spring might be to heavy.

yourmom23 Apr 3, 2009 09:45 PM

Well everything seems to be working right but it is still boost creeping on the secoundary like no tomarow:wallbash: even with the ported waste gate. All my lines are tight so i dont know im thinking of just putting in my stock mid pipe, cuz its still over boosting to 14psi on waste gate pressure.

I thought this wouldnt be a problem to run the strait pipe but i guess not, back to way quit exhaust. I thought there were quite a few people running a similer setup without spiking issues???? Anyone having my same problems
