Bonez vs Pettit racing High flow cat feedback

Ok, so I took off my downpipe today and was going to stick with the OEM cat but the car has 104k and I am sure the cat is in need of replacement. I have searched the forums and web and come down to these two and not sure which one based on my searching. Can I get feedback on the two. Thanks

Most people run the Bonez, it's proven and does a good job. The stock cat may still be good, they are pretty well built.

Don't throw that old cat out, it's worth good money to recycle. Like a pretty decent amount of money, maybe $100 or so.

Also, with a high flow cat you start opening the exhaust up and can get some boost creep happening. Start reading up on that, if you have a stock ECU you may need to mess with the pills.

Doubt you can go wrong with either one, but my only experience is with a BONEZ. It was on my car 15 years ago when I bought it and wasn't new then. Thick flanges, air pump hard line just like factory and good construction with heat shielding. Most every spring when the car is up on the lift I'll drop the cat and check the matrix. Even though I run premix with an OMP it's still clean and seems to flow well. No stink, better sound. No complaints.
Every car is different, but never any creep issues with it and my cat backs. (Greddy SP and RB DT)

Thanks guys, I read about boost creep. Do not plan on throwing out my factory cat or honestly any factory item I take off and yes I know the worth of them suckers. I worked at uhaul and we got hit at least once or twice a year on those BIG cats. Just did not know if the difference in price for the Bonez was worth it vs the Pettit one. Thanks guys.

Absolutely spend the money on the Rotary Performance/Bonez piece. Proven high quality :icon_tup:

Does anyone know who or what Bonez is? I've been trying to find info on them forever

I had a bonez high flow cat, it sounded really nice actually. I currently have a bonez straight pipe, which isn't too loud and sounds ok. Not as good as the cat.

Look right above your post. ;) Bonez (correct me if I'm wrong) is Rotary Performance's in-house brand of exhaust components. Cats, mid and down pipes is what they make and they're getting less and less easy to find. Like it's been said, Bonez is proven and there's nothing better available.

:icon_tup: I actually had RP high flow on the list too. I do not know why I did not put that because it was the same price as Bonez.

Ah, did not know that. I guess that is why they are only a few cents within price of each other and they do look the same.

I'll say this about the Bonez/RP... They came up with a really good idea pre-bowing the 2-bolt flanges.

I have always had issues with stock 2-bolt flanges leaking/blowing gaskets. The flanges start parallel to each-other, but the bolt ears pull down and the middle bows away from the gasket as they are tightened. I have gone as far as making custom tapered gaskets that are thicker in the middle to match the bowed flange profile.

The Bonez cat has the flange ends bowed up so that they flatten out as the bolts are tightened. This gives the flange-gasket-flange interface a more even sealing force in the middle. Simple and effective... great design.

I used Stainless 7/16-20 x 1.5 long fine thread bolts/nuts and 3" Ticon gaskets all from Amazon to install mine.

I've thought about going back to a cat (have rx7store midpipe). Will the bones car burnout without an air pump?

I haven't had a AP on my Bonez for about 10 years.

What about adding in some of the universals.. like the metallic 3” Magnaflow cat?

Saw more bad reviews than good over the ones I posted for an RX7. Nothing against magnaflow because I love them. I really wanted to want to get magnaflow because the price is NiCE!
