BNRs at the strip

Went to the NHRA Sport Compact Nationals this weekend with my BNR stage 3's. Overall kinda disappointing for me, but shows the potential.

Gotta start off by saying Friday during Qualifying was my very 1st time at a 1/4 mile track, and Saturday was the 2nd. I didn't get any time trial runs in at all. So both days were do or die.

Friday sucked hard cause somehow my boost controller got turned off so the Profec B II got set to 6 or 7 pounds... 13.8 @ 104 was what I got. Was looking all over for loose hoses afterwards but nada.. Steve finally found the controller as the culprit.

Saturday was much better. My RT kinda sucked at a .7 on a sportsman tree (only the 2nd time using that too..) I'm in desperate need of getting rid of my stock suspension, so no matter what I do I get wheel hop baaaad in 1st gear. I let off the gas some to get it to stop, then got a bit more in 2nd gear maybe up to 4000 rpms. After that it was safe to gun it through the rest of the track.

Finished behind a blue 2nd gen from San Antonio makin like 450 hp who ran a 11.9, then a mid 11 in his next elimination round.

My time was 12.41 @ 117 mph. This was on a set of Potenza RE730's. I'm positive with a few more practice launches and at least some springs and shocks I can get it down a few tenths. Then with some ET streets into the 11's.

nice times...... yeah get those launches down!

with some E/T streets you will easily be in the 11's. How do you like the turbos. Mine need replacing.

JTurtonRX_7 08-10-03 03:19 PM

:ar: wheel hop Get that worked out and some good tires - zoom Good numbers though.

cavellm 08-10-03 04:38 PM

The turbos are good, spool up pretty fast and especially once you pass 4500-5000 scream all the way to redline.

I've got a nice size street port, and hear the redline buzzer quite often. But each time I do, it seems the car still wants to go further.

Thanks guys. Just need some more practice with launching to do the car some justice.

Next time we go to the track I'll let Steve drive the car and see how bad he can put me to shame :D

how much boost to get the 117 mph trap?

T88NosRx7 08-10-03 07:52 PM

good times for it being your first time at the track, keep it up.

Sounds like you nave quite a bit more potential in there!! what were your 60 foot times? and who does your tuning?
C.

Get a torque brace and lower your stock tire pressure to around 20psi. Launch at around 3-4k rpms. This will stop your wheel hop.

AbadR1 08-10-03 08:23 PM

Are you running non or seg? Also what is your tire size in the rear? Also how much boost are you running?

cavellm 08-10-03 10:10 PM

I'm running a stock rear end with rear tire pressure set to 18 psi launching at ~3500 or so. The tire size is 245/45's sitting on stock wheels.

Boost was around 16 psi running non sequential. On the PFC the max reading was 1.14, which I think would be around that...

60 ft time sucked, being 2.24. That was the whole 1st gear shitty traction though. The 1/8th mile was also my best, being 8.2 @ 95.1. I've ran 2 weekends at an 1/8th mile track not too far from Dallas.

Steve Kan from Gotham Racing does all the tuning on the car. He's also the one who built the motor.

get ready to break stuff once you slap on those et streets.. 117 MPH trap is nice! i trapped 118 on my T78 @ 15psi....

cavellm 08-11-03 10:53 AM

Thanks! Maybe just get some springs and shocks first, also that diff brace that's being sold.

Try out the safe stuff before I put on the et streets..

Oh, and for those curious about the weight, I came in at 2880 with me in the car. So 2725 for just the car.
