Blue Smoke??

Hey, i was wondering if putting too much oil in my 93 R1 would cause extreme amounts of blue smoke to come out of my exhaust???

Madmax670 11-06-04 07:47 PM

anyone?

JaNusSolSumnus 11-06-04 08:05 PM

It's pretty common during startup to see blue smoke for about 30 seconds due to the oil injection.

As for overfilling I'd say its never good to overfill the oil, it can be hard on the seals due to the excess pressure, for that reason I dont find it unreasonable to consider that excess oil would be burned off through the exhaust.

when i shift @ high rpm's and let off the gas, about a second later a blue cloud of smoke billows out of my exhaust.... ideas?

Narfle 11-06-04 08:16 PM

waaaay too much oil dude. quick way to royally mess up your turbo bearings.

Madmax670 11-06-04 09:00 PM

so i should drain some oil quick?

RX7Wishing 11-06-04 10:27 PM

no, you should add more oil.....

Narfle 11-06-04 10:33 PM

do it again! drain all the oil and put in new stuff. 4.5 quarts.

Madmax670 11-07-04 02:04 AM

littlemilla3 11-07-04 02:25 AM

Madmax670 11-07-04 12:26 PM

another attached puicture, what is it and how much does it cost to replace, looks like i broke the nipple that the hose was on.....

Bad_Karma7 11-07-04 03:41 PM

A little oil there is normal. That is the catch tank, the bottom nipple attaches via a vacuum tube to the charcoal canister.

Madmax670 11-07-04 04:43 PM

since i broke the nipple for the black hose coming off of it, do i need to replace it, if so, how much is the whole unit?

JaNusSolSumnus 11-07-04 05:11 PM

JBweld that bitch back together and call it a day! :)

ghettostamps 11-07-04 06:22 PM

I'm just curious, and still learning all about my new toy, whats the proper oil pressure reading. Say, at 3k RPMS I should be....at 60? 5K over 60? What, I'm just curious...

Madmax670 11-07-04 08:50 PM

OK, jb weld is for metals i thought, its plastic, what can i use for that? if you have the stock oil pressure guage, u can forget about getting accurate readings so get an aftermarket one then worry about it

how long did you let the car sit? it should read ok if the car has been allowed to cool off, and the oil returns to the pan.

Madmax670 11-07-04 09:56 PM

yea, i guess that could be part of the problem, i read it right after i turned it off.

JaNusSolSumnus 11-07-04 11:01 PM

For the best readings check it when the car hasnt been run for some time, like in the morning before you've driven anywhere.

The stock oil pressure guage isnt very accurate, it gives you a good idea but they seem to go their own after sometime. Mine has been pretty consistant so far but I dont really worry about its readings as I've seen close to 0 at idle before and right at 120 before when WOT.

Oh yes, and JBweld will work fine for the plastics. It's the number one fix for solenoid breakage in America! ;)
