Blue Smoke??
Hey, i was wondering if putting too much oil in my 93 R1 would cause extreme amounts of blue smoke to come out of my exhaust???
anyone?
It's pretty common during startup to see blue smoke for about 30 seconds due to the oil injection.
As for overfilling I'd say its never good to overfill the oil, it can be hard on the seals due to the excess pressure, for that reason I dont find it unreasonable to consider that excess oil would be burned off through the exhaust. ~Kris |
when i shift @ high rpm's and let off the gas, about a second later a blue cloud of smoke billows out of my exhaust.... ideas?
waaaay too much oil dude. quick way to royally mess up your turbo bearings.
so i should drain some oil quick?
no, you should add more oil.....
do it again! drain all the oil and put in new stuff. 4.5 quarts.
What is the dipstick reading?
the dipstick is a piece of shit, it doenst read like any oil at all
well, how much did you put in?
i have too much oil in there and the dipstick says its empty

Attached pic.... it doesnt look good, thats oil by the way, what the hell is going on?

another attached puicture, what is it and how much does it cost to replace, looks like i broke the nipple that the hose was on.....
A little oil there is normal. That is the catch tank, the bottom nipple attaches via a vacuum tube to the charcoal canister.
since i broke the nipple for the black hose coming off of it, do i need to replace it, if so, how much is the whole unit?
JBweld that bitch back together and call it a day! :)
I'm just curious, and still learning all about my new toy, whats the proper oil pressure reading. Say, at 3k RPMS I should be....at 60? 5K over 60? What, I'm just curious...
OK, jb weld is for metals i thought, its plastic, what can i use for that? if you have the stock oil pressure guage, u can forget about getting accurate readings so get an aftermarket one then worry about it

yea, i guess that could be part of the problem, i read it right after i turned it off.

For the best readings check it when the car hasnt been run for some time, like in the morning before you've driven anywhere.
The stock oil pressure guage isnt very accurate, it gives you a good idea but they seem to go their own after sometime. Mine has been pretty consistant so far but I dont really worry about its readings as I've seen close to 0 at idle before and right at 120 before when WOT. Oh yes, and JBweld will work fine for the plastics. It's the number one fix for solenoid breakage in America! ;) ~Kris |
