Blew the EGI 30A Fuse - HELP Please

Hey guys,
So as I was reconnecting my battery today on the FD, i accidentally touched some metal (sparks up). then i correctly made sure when reconnecting that it wasn't touching any metal. (prior to disconnecting the battery my car would start right up with no hesitation)
Car started right up and I even let it warm up. I went to take it around for a spin and as i drove around the block i lost complete power.

I check the fuses and notice the EGI 30A fuse was blown. i went and bought some new ones - As i cranked the key blew another fuse. i rechecked to make sure battery was connected and nothing was touching)

So i'm completely lost on where to start or look or even know what EGI fuse does exactly?

(please note that my car is completely modified the whole shebang)

EGI = Electronic Gasoline Injection

Check all your fuses and check that your battery isn't overcharged.
Have you checked the main fuse?

My battery was almost dead, I did have it charged day before I re-connected everything. Is there a way to check if it was overcharged?

I'll check the Main Fuse - but I notice that Atkins Rotary offers OEM Main Fuse and 80amp Main Fuse.
By any chance, would you know the benefit of having 80amp fuse compare to the OEM?

When using fuses never use a fuse that has a higher rating, the stock main fuse is 120A, I use a 100A as it is very difficult to get 120A fuses in South Africa but I think 80A is for the older models, the FC uses a 100A fuse.

You have a short somewhere in that circuit

I pulled the EGI Main Relay - how can you tell if that's still in good working condition? It seems fine to me.
Can a overcharged battery cause this issue?

Hard to imagine how an overcharged battery would blow a fuse. You must have a short somewhere.

No @ overcharged battery, the fuse blew because too much power was going through it, would have happened with an undercharmed battery too...

I had the same issue when I messed around with the engine harness, do a very very good check over of it, if it's factory it'll be old & crusty, with cracked insulation, wire might be touched and grounding out...

Best place to look, anything you touched moved since it's been running... mine ended up being my own stupidity working against me

Next question - If I do have a short in this circuit... Sorry guys I'm completely new to finding shorts - but Does anyone know what color the wires that ill be tracing down? I'm assuming I'm starting at EGI fuse first which leads to EGI Main Relay... Then where too?

To add side note*
I've read what EGI is connected too but my car is completely modified - the whole engine, ecu etc the whole thing done... That's why I'm asking for help to start and trade this short...?

Here is a youtube video on how to do it, there is also a link in the comments on how to find one.
Hope this helps.

how to find a electrical short on most any car or truck - YouTube

Sounds like Tom Hanks explaining how to debug a short

CMUDGE26 06-29-16 05:59 AM

Has anyone used Power Probe ECT2000 to find a short?

CMUDGE26 07-01-16 05:24 PM

I'll keep this thread updated when and if I find the real issue...
