BIG FAVOR - Need Pictures of RHD Firewall Behind Dash

I need some pictures of a cabin with the dash removed on a series 6. Mostly I just need pictures of the wiring harnesses.

I'm working on a shell so I am completely lost. There is the engine harness that wraps completely around the firewall and engine bay. Then there is the harness that runs along the firewall and connects to the door electronics. Then there is another damn harness that sits with them (or so I think) only two plugs have connected them to each other and I don't even think that's right.

So I need some major help.

So if you have a front clip or the real deal and feel like removing the dash. PLEASE help me out and snap some pics.

Even some LHD firewall pics would help out. I just need a starting point. Soon as the dash goes on I can drive this beast.

I asked this same question, except for LHD last week and nobody helped me. I basically have the same problem as you. I took a bunch of reference pictures as I was taking my car apart but I lost them.

The harness with blue covering that has the orange and gray connectors is the air bag harness. It only connects to the harness it's next to in a couple places, so that's probably what you're talking about. Those two are supposed to be taped together most of the way across the car, if they did the RHD like the LHD.

I have a couple photos from my LHD FD, can get larger versions once I'm home. I also have more pics & different angles. My dash is still out, so let me know if you need any specific shots.

Oops, I just noticed these are from when I still had the A/C & blower motor in there. I have several more with those removed. Basically all mine has right now is the center section, which I believe is the heater core? It's been awhile since I tore all that stuff out, heh.

Here's a more recent shot with less clutter. Thought I had more than just these but I guess not. I can easily shoot some before I put the dash back in if needed. Just let me know.

Awesome, I think my problem has been solved. I hope these helped the other guy too.

Smeagol thank you for the pictures. I can't find the extra harness I have... The American stuff looks a lot simpler.

I'll take some pics and see if you guys can help.

Bumping this up for antiSUV. Here is the intermediate harness I mentioned that goes into that one plug you asked about.

I also took several more behind the dash shots with everything hooked up and working.

Let me know if you have any questions.

sweet, those pics give me a small head start. I swear I'm cursed though. Everytime I pull the cover off my car (no windshield) it rains. It was 90* yesterday and I take a glimpse and it rains for a minute.

alright, I have the dash harness ran and fuse box connected, but I don't know what these harnesses are or if I need them. (no air bags)

FD01-67-03ZA - has a blue and orange connector, seems to connect to US harnesses with airbag.
FD00-67-SHOD - no clue

The following interior harness summary should be the same for JDM and US models.
The FD portion of part numbers is probably different but the last part of the number should be the same if your harnesses still have white part number tags taped on them.

The Front harness runs around the perimeter of the front clip and through both sides of the firewall driver side and passenger side outer edges. 2 yellow connectors from it go to the ECU FD01-67-10j on US models.

The engine emissions harness from the UIM rats nest on US models goes through the firewall under the AC cooler unit of the driver side footwell. 2 more yellow connectors from it go to the ECU. N3A1-18-052 on US models.

The dash harness bolted to the top of the firewall (and not the dash as the name would suggest) is two harnesses as mentioned the blue wrapped one specifically deals with airbag sensors so you dont have to worry about the rubber plugs that exit the interior on either side. They both go to airbag crash sensors. The the black wrapped portion of the harness goes into both door connectors (just behind where the airbag rubber plugs go) into the side walls just ahead of the doors and powers door locks, mirrors, door speakers and power windows. FD01-67-40f on US models.

The harness tie wrapped to the dash metal frame and wrapped in grey sponge material is the instrument harness. It connects the gauge cluster and console.
FDX-67-30f on US models. X is 1 or 2 without sunroof 5spd or auto.
x is 4 or 5 with sunroof 5spd or auto.

A small AC Logical harness (on the dash harness near the ECU) runs back to the AC unit. FD0167-240 on US models.

The harness running down the driver side door edge back to the ABS unit and rear lights is FD01--67-190d on US models. FD04 on sunroof models.

The harness running down the passenger side door edge back to rear lights is FD01--67-200d on US models. (FD04 on sunroof models)

The 94_rx7 fd3 body_electric_manual in the stickies section above, answers a lot of questions, has lots of pics and is an OK trouble shooting guide.

Schematics in next post below.

Hope this helps ....

Thanks for all the pics and support Mike !

a few connectors and color coded harnesses...

thanks for the info

After comparing some things I need to find someone in Japan that can get junkyard parts for me.

I need both harnesses that run along the doors to the back of the car
I also need both driver and passanger door lock mechs. The part that is held into the door by 3 big black philips screws and makes the door stay shut.

After I get those I think I can finish this project.

What I've learned from this is converting a USDM FD to right hand drive is the hardest conversion out of all the series. I almost regret buying this shell... almost.

I now have all the wires I need, now I just need some pictures of a RHD car so I can put it all together.

your in luck walken...

I recently purchased a JDM front clip to use as donor parts for my US spec FD

so i'll have a Full JDM chassis harness and a bunch of RHD stuff I wont be needing/using

the car was running so everything should be in order...

maybe i can help u out...

walken 06-09-07 06:43 AM

If you feel like removing the dash and snapping a bunch of pics that would be awesome.

I have all these wires hooked up to the black box, but then I hook up the brake and clutch sensor wires and it dangles in front the pedals. I have no clue how these wires should route.

Ottoman 06-09-07 03:40 PM

I'll be taking the dashboard off eventually

Unfortunately while removing the downpipe I broke3 of the studs.. :(

so now i have to pull the turbo's and take them sumplace that can pullthem for me...

this really hindered my progress... SOB..

i'll let u know when i get to the dash part
