Better for what? A ducted cooler, IMO, is better than an unducted cooler. What oil temps are you currently seeing?

dont know yet but I've had a race port done and dont want to take any risks, some of my friends say I should be okay, but just want to get a couple more opinions or suggestions

I suggest you read Howard Colemans thread about cheap dual oil coolers from within the past few days.....that will be better than a "Greddy" 19-row.

IMO, an unducted 19-row is not an upgrade over stock and may even worse. I think you have to move up to 25-row before ducting becomes nearly insignificant.

Porting size doesn't really have anything to do with your oil temps. You need to first get a oil temp gauge. Once you know what temps you are seeing, then you'll know if you require an upgrade.

I totally agree with Kyle, you need to know what your temps are first before you spend money! That being said, IMO, any FD driven in temps hotter than 80F should have dual OEM oil coolers, even for street driving. I'm disappointed that Mazda did not make dual coolers universal.

EDIT: I should point out that the OEM dual coolers are quite good and are adequate for any purpose except tracking the car in temps above 85-90F.

Is that even if you are using Mobil 1 with it's higher temp capabilities? I imagine you are going to say yes, and in that case I guess I'll have to drive it like I would my toyota corolla. :wallbash:

Eh, ignorance is bliss. :) Just drive it normally and don't install an oil temp gauge. :D Just my 2 cents, feel free to ignore it. I just didn't like driving around in summer hitting 220-225F oil temps all the time.

I hear ya and I'm more inclined to take your advice over many others, that's for sure. Personally after last summer and dumping coolant all over the county I prefer to just leave the FD in the garage in any weather over 80 - 85 F. But now I'm running Evans NPG+ and Mobil 1 so was hoping that will take care of most of my heat problems so I can take that occasional drive out in the inferno. But I do think my next upgrade would be dual oil coolers after new o-ring and/or engine. lol.

If you're going with bigger is better, then I guess the greddy.
The oil needs to be the the correct temp. Cooler, just like hot oil, isn't just better
