Best source for vacuum caps?
All,
What's the best source for vacuum caps that will fit on the FD hard lines? Should I just use 1/8" caps? They're going to be a little small for the 5mm lines that are on the car. Any help would be greatly appreciated, -ch |
Go to a domestic speed shop. They have plenty of them in various sizes.

i got mine from pepboy's. it comes in a case with a lot of different sizes and colors.
it costs about $3 |
I got mine from Autozone. It was a pack of 4, for like $2.

I used my extra small trojans...haha I'm sorry I'm tired

you can get silicone or rubber ones from www.mcmaster.com page 3477
they are pretty reasonably priced and better quality than the ones from autozone, etc. |
ISUposs: I was thinking of the vinyl ones on page 3475 as well, also because:
1) They're not red 2) They come in a wider variety of sizes But they're not rated for anything under 0F, which worries me. (The silicone ones are good to -50F.) With the silicone ones, should I worry about the fact that the 5mm diamater tube size (~0.200") is inbetween the 1/8" and 3/16" cap sizes? I don't want these things to crack from being stretched or come flying off under boost. I'm also thinking about these guys: http://www.mocap.com/ultra_high_temp_caps_plugs.asp Or these guys: http://www.stockcap.com/prod_detail.asp?id=99&cat=12 -ch |
personally, I would stay away from vinyl. They are the really thin type and will probably loose elasticity when they are baked under the hood.
There are rubber ones further down the page if you are looking for something not red, but they won't last as long as silicone. |
Word to the wise:
Do NOT use vinyl or nylon black thin caps. When they heat up, they no longer have any elasticity and will easily come off. I just re-installed caps on the UIM with rubber caps because my car blew 4 black vinyl caps off of the manifold. |
can you use vaccum caps, on the throttlebody coolant fittings?
ALI |
I think you mean the hardpipe fittings going to the TB.
For a month: yes. Any longer: no. |

Are these pretty common? Is this something that would be a benefit for everybody if we made some and included them in our vacuum hose kits?
If so what sizes would be needed? What would you guys want caps or plugs? I would make them in the same colors as our vacuum hose kits (Blue, Red,Black, Silver, yellow and possibly white) Let me know! |
