I have mine on one of those cell phone holders that clip into the ac vent. You can get them any cellphone store. No velcro, no stickers.

Mine is here with customer aluminum mount.

thanks for the posts everyone.

cripyRX7: excellent job man!!! it looks beautiful. the silver goes well in your car. i have a blue steering wheel, and a blue stereo, so i think i will go with a blue pod/holder. dont mind if i use your idea.

I located mine behind the steering wheel using the cigarette lighter. I milled down a solid piece of black plastic at work. It looks similar to a cellphone holder but has an attachment that is adjustable. Works well for me.
I think any place you decide to locate it, you will have some sunlight or reading issues when driving. Give me a PM and your email address if you would like to see it.

Do you guys have any pictures of these?

OC94RX7, I did the same thing thinking i was the only one to use the cig lighter. I bought a NO Smoking dummie plug and attached it to the commander. If U want to use it as a guage it is the best way to do it and the wire can be hid around the back of the center console. It looks like more stock then any install I have seen.

TAMAatWork 06-11-02 10:08 PM

Sub-zero and OC94Rx7,

I thought I was the only one too. :)

I figure that all of you have either a cell phone or a radar detector. Myself I have my car charger plugged into the cigarette lighter. That makes an excellent place to rest the Commander between that and the steering column. I also put some of the velcro adhesive that comes with the PFC on the dash just to give it that extra hold. I can easily take it in hand if I want or leave it there and I can see it through the steering wheel.

Works well. I would take pictures but my car is having a motor put in it at RP. :)

I've got mine mounted to the dash with an AVC-R mount. Here's a pic - http://jrx7.rx7life.com/images/AVCRCommander.JPG . Thanks to GotBoostd7 for hooking me up with the bracket free!

Garfinkle makes a holder that snaps into a reserver in the right side of the trans tunnel ,a rod goes up to the foal lined holder that is beside the radio it almost covers the 4 way flash button .He also has one that sit higher if needed . they just unplug from the side of the tunnel when it needs to be out of sight

Kind of funny how we think we are the only ones placing the commander behind the wheel :D

One reason I placed it behind the wheel. It doesn't stand out and attract attention. Alot of people have placed the keypad in the ash tray, which looks really nice. I think it could be nice to have the screen behind the wheel instead of in the CD/Radio area.

again, I don't have a link. If someone sends me their email I would be happy to send a photo oof mine.

Why don't you just upload it as an attachment?
(Where it says "Attach File")

Second that. I love to see....

I thought that the best place to mount it was the glove box. You could build some sort of mounting bracket for you glove box.

TailHappy 06-17-02 07:21 AM

I was heavily considering using the glove box too since that would allow you to lock it away should you have to drop it off at a shop or something. But I'm afraid it will be too difficult to reach to switch turbo settings or whatever.

CrispyRX7 06-17-02 07:50 AM

Some observations on some of the proposed locations, ie., in the glovebox, behind the steering wheel, and in the ashtray. If your desire is to simply watch values, then perhaps behind the steering wheel is ok but in the glove box and in the ashtray are IMO too far from the drivers line of sight and can be dangerous if used in this fashion. Similarly, behind the steering wheel and in the gove box (again IMO) aren't very good ideas for those who want to change settings on "the fly." Put it where you can see it without having to turn your head and, if you want to change settings while driving, put it where you can reach it without going through or behind the steering wheel or having to reach over and open up the glovebox - again both dangerous maneuvers. If theft is your concern just make the commander easily removable from it's mount (wherever that may be) for storage in the glovebox. I track my car and the last thing you want to do is have to look far away from the direction of travel (the track) to see your gauges. Furthermore with a 5 point harness on just try and reach your glovebox or behind the steering wheel! Just some casual observations FWIW. Apologies in advance...opinions all my own.

Honestly, I don't know how you can see the track with all those guages to keep track of and monitor.

I might be time for a HUD transplant from a C5 to consolodate all that info. ;)

LOL...touche John.

Crispy - I agree with you. If your tracking your car. The last thing you should be doing is changing settings. If located in any of the locations you talked about.

I use my PFC behind the steering wheel location, because I feel it's the best place for me to make a quick glance at the values.
I have made some setting changes while driving, but I live in farmland counrty and it's not a problem. Overall,
it's just better to pull over and make changes.

Placing the keypad in the ashtray and the screen in the cigarette outlet would work for those using the 5 point harness. When in the pit lane waiting to go on track or even a cool down lap?? At high speeds - not to smart.

Just an idea.

I have mine in the ashtray,

https://www.rx7club.com/forum/attach...&postid=692273

It looks great, even better at night, and it works great. I guess I have my seat back pretty far so it is more in my view, but I can look at it really quick to see anything I need to know. Also I use the peak/hold function a lot when monitoring 4 or 8 things.
