Best place in the cabin to tap in to 12v?
 

I'm going to be installing a profec b-spec II and a wideband soon and i need 12v for both of them. I was thinking splicing off of the cigarette lighter. :shocking: The wideband is going on the steering column and the profec is going below the stereo.

There is an open fuse on the fuse block under the dash on the drivers' side. It is, unfortunately a constant 12V supply and not switched by the ignition switch.

There may be another source on the fuse block depending on the accessories you have on the car (i.e. sunroof, etc.)

So if i ran both of them there through a lit 12v rocker switch on the kick panel that would be a solution.

Cig Lighter is where I got both power and dimmed lighting for my boost and temp gauges - what the amperage rating on the profec and the wideband?

I need a switched 12v under the hood by the main fuse block for my fan controller. Anyone?

The profec literature doesn't say how many amps it draws, the afx lit says less than 2 amps. I doubt that the profec draws even that much.

In the fuse box next to my clutch pedal under the dash, there's an unused slot at the top which is switched 12V. It sounds like the same one that cblake3 is talking about, but I've tested mine with a voltmeter and is switched. I have my gauges, S-AVCR, and wideband all hooked up to it.

I didn't think to trace the wires from my gauges. I'll check to see if i can find these fuse blocks as I'd prefer that to splicing up my lighter.

I dont think AHarada was referring to the stock gauges but rather the fact that he has aftermarket gauges hooked up to the unused slot in the interior fuse box next to the clutch area. I have a few gauges, wideband and what not all hooked up to the same area. I will see if I can find a pic as it is definitely the best spot to hook up any devices to a switched power source.

I wasn't talking about stock gauges either ;)

EDIT: Thanks for pictures I know where the clutch is but i'm not a big fan of blindly attaching wires.

I tapped my 12v to cig lighter wire. easy to find, and for sure you know it only powers up when ignition is on.

I don't understand. What the others are referring to is an otherwise unused, factory, SWITCHED 12v source. In order to hook up to it, all you need is a spade connector...female IIRC. Very clean and intended by MAZDA to be used for such things. No soldering to your cigarette lighter. I'm not an electrical engineer, but other than the connector, I think the only other thing you'd need is an in-line fuse. Sounds like just what your looking for. ???
Just above the fuse panel cover, on the right. You'll see the socket.

i hooked my guages to the ashtray light it is easey to access and dimms with everything else plus there is plenty of room to run wires there

Where would i run the ground if i go to the fuse box socket?

Anywhere to the chassis.

remove the paint first before attaching though. better connection.

I run my wideband (and other accessories) off of the sunroof 12v. The cig lighter wires are pretty thin to be drawing allot of power.

i ran a relay with 12v (switched) at the left foot of drivers side as the switch, then fed a 12gauge wire from the battery to the relay, then the relay to a fused block to power all my accessories (v1, boost controller, gauges, cooling fan mod, afr) might be overkill, but ehh this way it allowed me to get a constant 12v as well as a switched 12v

What about a barrier strip (pictured below) wired in to this fuse socket with a fused link and grounded to the chassis? That way when you get a new accessory you just wire it in to the block instead of having to re-run wires to the fuse socket.
