i'm looking at purchasing a race-ported 13b to go in an FD... what are the best places to get one of these? in canada would be preferred

As stated above by Pomanferrari, Malloy Mazda for the source motor, then KDR, or Gotham for porting and build quality, AND a shop that stands behind their work!;)

Just wanted to input that, I'm a happy "Rob @ Pineapple" customer. Actually, IIRC Jason of the RX-7 store also uses a Pineapple engine. Here is a link referring to some customers of Pineapple:
