Best method for engine bay detailing & restoration?
I've managed to get the rest of the car SPOTLESS but the engine bay could use some work, has a lot of dirt on the spots i can't reach around the engine bay and on a lot of the engine parts
I tried properly mixed simple green, "GUNK" and a few other products with elbow grease and a pressure sprayer, but it's not up to my standards... what's the best do-it-yourself option to a like new appearance? Once everything else is clean i'll coat teh plastic parts with armorall/back to black and make those shine thanks |
The way I usually do it is, I get some degreaser and spray the hell out of the engine bay. I let it sit for a bit till is almost dry. Then I re spry it again. After a few minutes I get it with the water hose but not a full blast and a rag to the place I can get my hand into.

Castrol Super Clean !
For greasy engines use Castrol Super clean and a Power washer !
Make sure you cover your Intake and altinater with plastic bags ! Best used when engine is cold and Make sure you do not let it sit too long It will pit your glass and polished aluminum ! If it needs a lite duty cleaning use S-100 engine cleaner sold at Most Motor cycle shops this will not hurt any metals or glass and will help reject any new dirt ! wile your at the cycle shop also purchase the S-100 silcone spray do detail all the rubber and metal painted surfaces after she's all dry ! Good luck |
If you've got the time and really want it clean, take parts out and clean them individually.
