Best ECU For My HP Goal?

I was wondering, Do I really need to go all out and get a Power FC? I am going for 350rwhp. I plan on upgrading basically everything except the turbos. (maybe upgrade those too, but later) Fuel, exhaust, itake, cooling, but the $$ for the PFC seems like alot. Which one is the best for my application.

scratchjunkie 01-20-04 12:35 PM

i recall reading someone with the pettit unlimited ecu making 350.

dubulup 01-20-04 12:36 PM

upgrading everything (except twins) isn't exactly cheap either

PFC is what everyone will tell you to get...best technology out there right now for that power.

MazdaRx7Racer4Life 01-20-04 12:37 PM

Yeah, i figured, but is it really worth it? I have the money, but is it easy to tune? I used to own a haltech with my FC, is it something like that?

GsrSol 01-20-04 01:06 PM

You can do 350rwhp with the Pettit Unlimited. You just can't upgrade the injectors with that ecu.

artguy 01-20-04 01:12 PM

you all are insane running 350rwhp on a guesstimate ecu. there is only one way to do it right and that is to tune it properly based on your own individual afr's and timing needs.

the pfc is the base ecu you should get if you want it done right. it has half the resolution of a great ecu like the motec but it also comes at an affordable price...affordable compared to a new motor anyhow.

Yes it's most definatly worth it. I wouldn't reccomend anything else honestly. The pettit ECU can definatly make 350hp, but do you really want to be limited to that number?

Flipn 01-20-04 01:12 PM

350rwhp is also my goal.. and PFC seems to be the best choice... because in the near future 350 wont be enough..

Amen brother. Do it once, do it right.

MazdaRx7Racer4Life 01-20-04 01:24 PM

lol, alright guys, Power FC is on the way, just ordered from rx7store.com, should I put it in before or after the dp, mp, catback, intake bo get here or after?

MazdaRx7Racer4Life 01-20-04 01:30 PM

Just read this from their webiste:

"Tuning parameters include: ignition timing map, air flow meter signal adjustment, injector pulse timing adjustment, boost control, acceleration enrichment compensation, fuel/ignition test, ignition cranking fuel adjustment, water temperature correction, rev-limiter control."

Basically, with the Power Fc, I won't be needing a Boost controller or a datalogger right?

dubulup 01-20-04 01:39 PM

no you'll need a boost controller with that mp.

Kento 01-20-04 01:43 PM

And if you want to get any real tuning done, you'll need a reputable person with experience tuning FDs with the PFC, along with the datalogit software/laptop and a wideband O2 sensor.

MazdaRx7Racer4Life 01-20-04 01:54 PM

You know anyone in florida, preferable s. fl with experience tuing fds?

Kento 01-20-04 02:04 PM

You might try posting in the SE forum....

cruiser 01-20-04 03:31 PM

So Kento what you are saying is that having PFC, datalogit and WB02 doesnt do you no good unless you know a reputable/good rotary tuner ?

I mean - cant one do it by himself with the stuff above (including a laptop)?

In the distant future I would most likely like to go with some '99 twins and bigger injectors to get around 450hp (not whp), but there are no rotary tuners around where I live in Europe.

So it can be done, or it can not be done ?

Anyone knows where one could learn the craftsmanship of tuning ? Its basically setting the fuel (easy), and ignition timing (hard), right ? :)

rynberg 01-20-04 03:37 PM

You can tune fine by yourself if you have the patience and right tools. If you buy some things from Jason at the rx7store, he can send you a base map that will be a good starting point. The timing doesn't really seem to vary that much from a lot of the cars I've seen maps for (with similar mods -- a single turboed large streetport is going to require different timing than a stock-port twins motor for example). The fuel adjustment is simply patience and small adjustments.

I don't think it's very difficult at all to set up a conservative map. I think the problem occurs when people are trying to eke out every bit of horsepower.

cruiser 01-20-04 03:49 PM

Yes, thats why I wrote 450hp (which would be around 370rwhp) - I think that should be attainable with a conservative map, or no ? I'm looking into safe performance. New engine core here costs $6.5k (compared to $2k in USA) so you get my point ;)

mr g lord focker 01-20-04 05:51 PM

Cruiser. I have same mods as you, I also have bigger injectors 1300cc and 99 spec twins. Was told I would be running around 330-340 to the wheel with these mods with my SRmotorsports tuned PFC. But XS engineering locally on town said they could crank about 370 rwhp with these mods if they get it in and tune it correctly. So yes, your wanted numbers are possible.

DCrosby 01-20-04 05:58 PM

Anytime you utter the words, and then maybe later, get a tuneable ECU, a mapped one -> waste of $$
