? Best Clutch & Pressure Plate set-up for 500 RWHP?
 

I know that this questions has come up before, but since all the new products that have come out i was wondering if there is anyone with new suggestions. i will be dropping my tranny this morning to rebuild it. and im looking to upgrade by clutch and pressure plate set up. what would you guys recomend. PLease NO 1500.00 Clutch, Cant afford that!!!

well im already at 411 RWHP before the bigger turbo and other mods being done to the car. i know that there are clutch setups that can hold the power with out all the big bucks.

Maybe the ACT Extreme will work for 500+ rwhp. But to be honest, I rebuilt my twin plate going on 3 years now at 400+ rwhp, daily driving and over 120 launches off the line...still running strong.:D

Multi-plate is the only way to go. There's no way a single plate clutch can hold that kind of power and still be fun to drive.

I get the exedy twin plate. the grip and clutch feel is perfect. I've tried ACT street/strip, ACT extreme, and the exedy stage 1 and non of them can compare to the Exedy twin plate.

:shrugs: You know Jim I've been saying that for years...but nobody wants to listen to me. My twin plate is so easy to drive a blind/crippled/crazy 80 year old lady could drive my FD(if I still had Power Steering that is)

Even w/ low power, my ACT clutch died a horrible death...

Holy Shit that's cheap! Plus it gets rid of the hassle that the pull type clutch...

I always read about chatter? Is it like horrible rattling like coke cans sound or.... i dunno how to describe, haven't heard it.

what is the difference between a pull type and a push type.... i mean, i've taken mine off before so i know what the pull type is, how does a push type work differently?

DAMN if you like Exedy, you would be in hog heaven with OS or ORC...

i am actually looking at that. the quality on the OGURA clutch are insane beautiful. i'm saving right now.

Chatter isn't bad at all. Hardly noticeable above a loud exhaust.

Push type is the same as the FC clutches. Basically, no fiddling with the clutch to disengage from the flywheel. Just pull the tranny from the engine.

Easy to drive is always a plus. But how is the pressure? I like a heavier clutch...that requires more effort to push in than the stocker.

The stocker is much to light for me...doesn't really give me a good feel for the car. Feels weak too...

Also, does the twin plate come w/ it's own special flywheel, or can you use any aftermarket flywheel?

This is a loud noise only when the INCORRECT bearing is used. People buy bearing seperate from the clutch kit to save money and end up with this noise since like OS bearings for example are about $50 more then a nissan parts one..

stevecod----Yes the ORC/OGURA clutch has a very strong look to it, especially the pressure plate/diaphram but this usually means a little harder to press in, I havent ever drove with one, but if I ever need a FULL clutch kit, im going to try it out. Im currently happy as I can be with my OS clutch..

It has slightly more pedal pressure feel over stock. Not horrible but tolerable. Also, they use specific Flywheels which are lightened, but the entire clutch itself is heavier so it cancels out the effects of the lightened flywheel.

if you are trying to be cheap. an act heavy plate with a cintered iron disc will work...youll never slip it but you will hate driving the car. i did. I just put in an exedy twin plate and it is probally the best thing ive bought for my car. they are pricey but if your worried about 500atw and driving an fd then you got the wrong hobby.

How much power do you have and how long did it last you? I'm installing my act 6 puck disc tomorrow with an RPS pressure plate.

how well do our drive trains hold up under mad hp? rear end trans ect.? when does it need to be swaped for stronger stuff? (hp) the reason i ask is im looking at around 450rwhp and want to know how well my car will hold up to it.

If you're going to drag race with that much hp, then I suggest upgrading the clutch, differntial, ppf, and axles. When you're going the clutch might as well do the ppf since you'll have to remove it to replace clutch. Also when you upgrade to a new diff, upgrade the axles too while you're there. The stock tranny tranny can surprising hold up to alot of power, just keep the mishifting to a minimum.

I was running stock twins on a stock motor. Typical mods - IC, CAI, dp, mp, cb, PFC. Prolly 280-300rwhp?

I dont drag nor slip the clutch. Consensus says that the copper pucks dont heat up enough (like in a lapping session) so they are very abrasive. Kinda like race brake pads will eat rotors unless they're at operating temp.

I've ordered an Exedy Twin Race Clutch as a replacement.

chattering is overrated!! i get that with my act heavy duty clutch and racing beat alloy flywheel!! all it is is a noise when you engage the clutch. i dont think it does anything bad...
