Best clutch <500hp: Single carbon, double metal, double carbon
 

ok, read "all" the threads. Dragon uses a triple plate for his high HP daily driver and says it's fine. Some people say the ACT slips over 400hp but Knightsport ran a T04R >400hp w ACT S/S and never had issues (allthough his was a sponsored version). He ran the HKS twin plate but didn't like it (also HKS sponsor). A few years ago everyone ran ACT S/S and now the trend is Exedy twin plate. ATS is raved as the best and most expensive. Has anyone compared replacement part costs and availability? That's one thing I learded from JIC (low initial cost overpriced overhaul). Has anyone compared the lifespan of more then one brand? Right now I am consifering a carbon single or twin plate metal. Supposedly RPS is the only company that does full carbon (both PP & disc) but they don't list a kit for the FD. There are also carbo covered disc's and full carbon discs which they don't tell you in their little paragraph. Dampered steel and damperless carbon. oh my!

ATS Carbon 450hp-S and 500HP-R 1350kg/2976lbs of clamp force. Converts to push type?

Exedy single carbon Doesn't list hp or torque but looks like clamp force is 2650lbs. Is single carbon more agressive then twin metal?

Exedy twin metal plate (sprung center) 500-750hp (flywheel?) 2205lbs clamp load

Cusco is pull type and same pressure as stock but have no clamp force or HP numbers for it. Also, I am supposed to decide based on maximum torque and not HP (rotary's have lower torque then pisstons) but I don't see that listed for any brand.

ACT - The HD S/S holds 400lbs of torque. Decision should be based or torque, not HP.

Exedy:

Hyper Carbon single - is smoother even without sprung hub but better suited for track since it needs to be warmed up and cools easily (slips when cold). good for 400lbs of torque. Lasts the same as metal (not twice as long) and withstands the same torque.

twin plate - is good for 600ft lbs of torque. chrome molly street light flywheel. chatter is floater plates whether carbon or steel discs.

RPS - They make a full carbon (disc, pads on flywheel, plates, etc) version (no need to heat cycle), but unfortunately not for the FD and have no plans for it in the future.

Other brands that use carbon/steel have to warm up because they have to be hot to create friction but carbon/carbon has friction cold or hot.

i run a os gilken twinplate with my t04s cosmo re combo. Works fine for me.

I'm running an RPS cluch with a puck six pressure plate. This is what my engine builder/tuner suggested to me, he was running this setup on his 700rwhp drag FC all last year with no issues.

Im running a Spec 4puck sprung clutch. Im not impressed with it. It has unpredictable catch points and makes this weird squeeky noise when coming out of 1st gear slowely. Ive talked to others who've had the same problem.

what would be the differences between exedy single and dble carbon?

is the spec stage 3 any good? with 4puck street disc? anyone?

Thats exactly what I have. Honostly, it is not a good clutch IMO. It grabs, but it sucks to drive. I talked to someone else with one and they said the 6puck one is an improvement. Just get an ACT.
