Do you think I need to spray a clear coat on them to hold up better. They have about 5 coats of paint as they sit now.

Looks amazing! I did mine about a year and a half ago using UHR Caliper paint (red) with no clear coat and they have held up very well (5 coats as well).
Again great job! |
Big transformation. Gotta make sure you have some open rims to show those babies off!

I am bringing this back up because I wanted to show the lettering on the calipers... did anyone notice in the before picture there is no lettering, and in the new there is the logo....I am pointing this out, because I am making the rx-7 license plate in the group buy interest section and I wanted to give another example of some lettering I have done by hand.... :) check out the plate in the group buy interest section....

Man oh man, what a difference.

Those are some nice looking brakes now. I like the lettering too. I was in Autozone last night looking at some caliper paint. They had the Dupli-Color that you put on with a brush and it's rated at 500 degrees, and they had VHT (very high temperature) spray on paint rated at 900 degrees. Which one would be better? I'd rather use a brush to put it on that way I don't have to tape off anything and I can just go around the MAZDA letters too.

BTW, here's my brake caliper painting writeup -
http://www.clubrx.org/default.asp?id...ntent=37&mnu=5 Testors model paint and about an hour. Dirt cheap, holds up great, and looks awesome. Dale |

^I don't know why I hadn't thought of that before reading this thread, haha. I'm thinking about doing it Dale Clark's way.

Oh, and even though I'm against using high pressure carwashes too often, I used one the day after I painted my calipers and they weren't harmed at all. I'm pleased with the Dupli Color Paint. :icon_tup: |
Also, anyone painted theirs with the yellow? I would like to see some painted yellow. Especially on a VR but any color will do...as long as it's a FD
