Beeping around 2000 RPM - possible causes?
 

Been going through this new to me FD and trying to fix all the little issues it has.. but this one has me rather stumped.

On the test drive I noticed a random beeping here and there. Doesn't sound like coolant buzzer to me and the light never comes on (and the black/red wire is grounded out so I don't even think it can beep). Video below I just took a few minutes ago. any ideas? It seems to really like to beep around 2k RPM but it does it higher in the rev range as well. If you hold it at 2k it will just yell at me all day. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

That is very unusual. That could be a weird rev limit buzzer warning.

What other electrical gremlins lurk in your FD? Does the odo work? How accurate is the speedo?

Do you have any issues with the Security alarm, turn signals, or headlights? If so, then you may want to check the Body CPU. Refer to the wire diagram manual, around Diagram J-4 I believe.

The odo lights up but displays no digits. When I was cranking at one point it looked like it was trying to display something. In the videos I saw of the car before I went and got it it was working but then stopped by the time I went and got it. I haven't driven the car above 50mph but I did not notice any issues with the speedo, but I also wasn't looking for them. I've only put maybe 5 miles on the car before I took it apart.

No idea about the security alarm. The drivers side key hole seems broken, can't get a key in it. All turn signals/headlights/taillights work fine as well as the interior lights, sunroof, dash lights, power windows, etc.

If the odo is blank then you have a problem in the speedo board. There are several threads that cover this repair and parts list. Look for my DIY & How-to thread for relevant links.

I suspect the buzzer at 2K rpm may indicate a 2nd problem with your Speedo board. Another member had a similar problem with the buzzer at low rpm.

I would not check the Body CPU given this new info.

Once you open the speedo board, take plenty of pics and post your findings in the speedo repair thread.

How good are you at soldering electronic components?

Unless you have discovered already, be very careful pulling the dash apart as the plastics are very easy to break, particularly the instrument hood.

You might want to have spare parts handy before taking a dive into the dash.

Was there any aftermarket wiring done to the car, such as remote look opening, or security systems?

It's been a while but I'll give it a go. Thanks! I'll tear into it a bit tonight hopefully. Thanks for the info.

All I've found so far is someone installed aftermarket fog lights and then someone removed them.

Well after replacing every cap that I could find a replacement for on the speedo board (HUGE thanks to Gen2n3 and everyone else who did all that legwork) my odometer has come back to life and the beeping has ceased.

I just ordered a new gauge hood/surround from Ray Crowe (ouch). Hopefully get the dash back together when that shows up.
