Battery keep die overnight? And charging problems?
 

Hey I got a high voltage dry cell battery it holds the voltage good but I am not sure how good is my charging is? Anyhow I put a Fluke on the car while it idle and I get 13.90 volts, also when I put the all the lights on it goes to 13.25? Is that normal I thought it suppose to be a 14 volts with the lights on? Anyway what is the normal charging volts suppose to be for a good fds alternator? Also I do have a stereo sysytem but nothing major compare to other it's just an small amp and kenwood passive EQ and head unit, also I drive with my fan mod switch on all the time can that draw alot of volt from the battery? Also for the guys that have a system in they car what high output alternator are u using?

Can you switch battery's? My yellowtop didn't last long in my Honda, don't know why. If the borrowed battery does not drain overnight, problem solved.

i thought those higher output alternators took away some horsepower, don't they?

i have a somewhat big stereo and i have a 2farad capasitor so i dont really need the big altenator

I also have a dry cell, Optima yellow top. Relocated to the bin behind the passenger seat. If I don't drive my car for a couple of days, the battery is drained. Don't know whats causing it.

do you guys have a cut off switch for your amps? a amp will kill your battery if left on

K here is what you do, first get a multimeter with a DC amp setting. Then turn off car and disconnect the positive side of battery terminal, place the multimeter between the battery and the positive cable (do not start car or it will blow our your multimeter). With everything off, it should read about .2-.4volts (this is the ghost amp draw from the stuff like alarm and clock and stuff like that). If it's more then that, you got something that is grounding itself. Next step is to start pulling all the fuses and relays you can find, once you pull one and see that the amp draw drops, that fuse eletrical system has something wrong with it, check that wire and that system. If nothing can drop it like in my friend's car, its probally along the main eletrical system or something that is not fused like an aftermarket alarm or the ecu. Grab someones manual (remember to return it after you use it) and then check the eletrical schematics and hopefully you can track it down.
