Bad turbo or oil control rings?

I bought a j-spec motor from another member, when i finally got around to putting it in my car it started right away!!! awesome right? well about 2 seconds later my garage and neighborhood where filled with oil smoke! i checked the spark plugs and ic hoses, no oil. so i figured my turbos were bad, as soon as i took my dp off it was filled with oil enough to leave a little puddle on the drive way. The dude i got the motor from sent two sets of turbos and said one was bad so I just barely got the other set installed jumped in and my car started right away! amazing for sitting for 8 months.... well my garage filled up with oil smoke again, i decided to drive it around the block and when i got on it a little the smoke started to clear but when i slowed down it was back! what should i try next? could this be caused just from sitting so long?

Nope not from just sitting
just worn seals on the turbos that are prob cooked due to high operating temps

How could I tell if it was my oil control rings? Just by oil on my plugs?

My first thought would be that it was the turbos, when shot they tend to smoke at idle. Oil control rings inserts, when shot tend to billow smoke at high rpms. However, and this is my experience, I once had an oil control ring that was stuck due to a jammed spring, and it would fill my garage with smoke beyond visibility in about 10 seconds.

But wouldn't that mean oil on my spark plugs?

Yes it would. To be sure, pull the green and yellow relays to disable fuel/spark and crank the motor a bunch. Pull the plugs and check for oil.

How much did you drive the car after you replaced the turbos? It could just be oil build up in the exhaust from when your turbos were blown and it's just burning off. Check your oil level and go drive on the highway for a little while. When you get back let the motor sit and check your oil again to see if you're still burning oil.

It also could be (unfortunately) another bad set of turbos.

Ok I'll try that, I pulled my plugs before and they were dry as can be but I'll go pull those relays and try that and get back to you! Thanks

Ok I unplugged those relays, cranked it for about 15 seconds, plugged both the leading plugs out and no oil! Now what? Drive it?

Good luck Shawn, hopefully it's just left over oil in the exhaust.

Well filled up the fluids and took her for a drive today, after about ten mins the smoke cleared up but my car wasn't boosting at all. So I went home and while idleing there's a little blue smoke still coming out. No where near what it was.

Changed my couplers today and saw a significant amount of oil in my ic piping and also in my exhaust, do I need to buy a new set of turbos or tear my engine apart?

your turbos are toasted!
