Bad engine?
I just bought a 93 FD. It has a little over 100K miles. When I got it, it had a few boost leaks and had some white smoke coming out the exhaust. I fixed all of the visible leaks. It doesn't have much power at all. I can hear the turbos spooling but I don't know at what psi.
I have driven it about 20 miles since then and it has been smoke free. I even drove it last night. This morning, I got up to put it in the garage and replace all the suspension bushings and when I started it, the car smoked like crazy. I couldn't even see behind me. My question is, is there any chance at all my engine doesn't need rebuilt right now? Or is it pretty much guaranteed that with those miles, it is bad? Any help on what the smoke might be. It doesn't seem to be losing any fluids and it most certainly doesn't leak under the car anywhere. Can someone give me a writeup on how to do a compression test on a rotary? thanks a ton |
The following site has information on doing a compression test as well as checking for a coolant seal failure:

At that mileage it could be that your turbos are shot. It only take a small amount of fluid (oil/coolant) to make huge amounts of smoke, so not having apparent fluid loss is not an indicator. Installation of a boost gauge will be very helpful to you.
