Backfiring is normal?

Hi, my FD is from japan, so it has no pre-cat, I was running stock until last week, when I put on a HKS Superdrager catback and an ARC intake box, afterward, my car backfires quite often.
Is this normal? Because when I had everything stock, the car did not backfire at all.
Does this mean Im running rich or lean? Any input would be appreciated:nod:

Dont worry about the back firing (i dont!), its pretty normal for an aftermarket exhaust.

You mean backfiring like this?

That is fine, and to be expected if you're running a free flowing exhaust, without any cats at all.

Do you have an aftermarket ECU?

I'm in japan and I've got a straight thru exhaust with an HKS FCON on the computer and I noticed mine has been back firing a lot which makes me a little nervous as well. But mine started when I started using high octane gas off base instead of the crummy gas on base with an octane booster. I'm waiting to see if it still happens as much when i get the computer retuned. So ur car is right hand drive? What year?

Hi my car is 92, right hand drive, I heard a lot of people say backfire is normal, I guess it is normal then.

Well the idea of a mostly straight thru exhaust with all the hot exhaust hitting the outside air does cause the back fire but I noticed mine has been a little more than normal I think I'm running a bit rich. I have a 98 but I can't bring mine to the US. So I'm planning on stripping it down before I leave buy another FD when I get back to the states and throw all the parts in. Should be a lot of fun! That's awesome u have a right hand drive in the states let me know if u need something specific.
