Automatic motor to manual tranny
I've been hearing something about you can't used a motor from an automatic tranny in a manual car. What's this bs? I'm about to buy a motor, and I'm getting a great deal, but it's from an automatic. Can I still use it on my manual tranny? What do I have to change? Counterweights or something? Help me out.

Well, first of all. You need to exchange the flywheels and counterweights. Obviously, you will need a clutch (new preferably cause you will have the motor out) instead of the torque convertor. You will also need to exhange the wiring harness to match up to your ECU. I think that's it. I could be wrong, but that's what I can give you so far.
Never heard of anything like this b/c people usually just break down the motors to the short block and swap all the parts, then stick it in. Well, Good Luck to ya. |
All the bolts on the bell housing line up with the rear plate except for one. It's not a problem putting it on at all.

yeah i have a new clutch for it, an exedy and a new lightended flywheel. Where do these weights come from? I have a 5spd tranny but the motor is from an auto. I don't know why it wouldn't just bolt right up. I mean a motor is a motor right? And I have the harness from the 5spd, so you're saying that one wouldn't work? I was just planning on dropping the motor in and plugging it in. I need some more info if anyones got it. I'm gonna keep looking though. Thanks

and I didn't have a motor in the first place, so I coulnd't just get the core rebuilt. Thanks though

so let me get this straight. I have the 5spd tranny and 5spd harness and ecu. Why wouldn't I be able to bolt the motor right to the tranny and plug it in? What's the difference between a manual motor and an automatic motor? I'm just confused. Thanks

There is no difference in the short block of the motors. So, just try and put the motor in after you swap out the wiring harness. 'Cuz there's only one way to discover the differences.

Yeah, the 5spd tranny, ecu, and harness is already in the car. I figured I could just bolt the motor up to the tranny and then plug it in.

Yeah, that's what I thought, I was just confused. I guess I didn't state it clearly. Yeah, I just bought an exedy clutch and 9.5 pound flywheel. So I just pop that on the tranny, the flywheel on the motor, and presto! We're good to roll. Thanks
