Automatic to Manual Wiring Instructions - Clean and Thorough

3 Attachment(s)
I did a 3rd gen auto to manual conversion last year and spent a lot of time getting a clean wiring design that would make as few cuts as possible while matching all manual functionality. It's written to make most of the cuts at the auto harness connectors and it's also written to be reversible. I started with a clean auto car and did not change any wiring harnesses (re-used all the auto harnesses). I'm attaching the write up as a .pdf and as a Word document. Even though there's a lot of data on the forum it took me a lot of time to pull it all together, go through the wiring diagrams to see exactly which wires to cut and splice, and a lot of time on the car verifying all of this. I shared an early messy draft with a forum member and he said it helped him out a lot, so I rewrote it today as I embark on the next conversion and wanted to share it. This also has tips on where to look in FSM wiring diagram section Z, connector part#'s needed to purchase, part numbers for the manual transmission sensors, and replacement part #'s for the connectors on the MT sensors since my first used MT had some damaged connectors.

Rough count of the number of cuts as written:
Four cuts at the auto inhibitor connector, and 2 pins that are optionally moved off of this connector for 1st/2nd gear switch.
Three cuts at the Auto EC 20 pin connector
One cut at the 16 pin front wiring harness connector
One cut at the cruise control ECU connector for cruise control functionality
One more cut for optional clutch safety switch.

So 10 total if you go all out with optional 1st/2nd and clutch interlock feature which most people don't seem to bother with. I'd make it inline but it took me hours to write it up in the Word doc first and pasting it inline destroys the formatting.

I couldn't verify the cruise control since it didn't work to begin with on my auto, but the one change was mentioned on the forum which I verified in the schematics. I just provided exactly where to cut and jumper. Hope to try it on the next converted car.

Cheers,
Dan

WOW Thanks for writing this up! This is one area that's got a lot of grey to it with the swaps and this clears up a lot.

Just read through the PDF, real clean and clear and will help a lot of guys in the future!

Thanks for doing this!

Dale
