i ran a 13.8 on my stock auto tranny and that was stock with really shitty twins. now i went single and done many mods so we will see how well i can do....... the auto tranny is fun as hell because of its hold feature..... dont knock it till u try it (or learn how to drive and power brake properly). the auto tranny is probably about the best for turning and mountain roads because u can leave it in 2nd gear while everyone is shifting hundreds of times to get it in the right gear.

I've manualized my 280zx turbo 3n71b jatco by doing the following:
remove governor circuit by blocking holes in trans case, join governor circuit in vb by drilling hole between the two passages, lock 1-2 shift valve in the upshift position with a piece of brake line cut to the correct length. disconnect modulator valve and kickdown solenoid. i had a 2-3 shift flare up that's turned out to be a sticky shift valve. i haven't had a chance to try it at the track yet but it's definately full manual shifting now. |
okay automatic guys......................operation blow up the auto tranny is in place..... My tranny is not old and its been well maintained. So far we are up to 360 whp and tranny still shifts and drives like new.

I pushed my auto trans up to 310whp before I went to manual and I beat the crap out of that thing with no problems for two years. The only real draw back to the auto trans is its fourth gear which is ridiculously long. If I remember right, fourth gear would go from 130-204mph. It accelerated great up to 130 but then it was a absolute dog.
Also do NOT go to nonsequential twins. The stall in the torque converter is too low to build boost off the line and your lag will be unbearable. In order to launch the car well I would just neutral bomb it at 4K rpm (only did this a few times and yes I know it's bad). |
Skip that C4 junk... if you can make a C4 work you can make a 4r70w work.... 4r70w ftw!!!
Two of my cars have them, greats trans, OD, lockup converter and Bauman Engineering makes a stand alone controller for them... |

yes, typically you send it off to be worked for a different stall speed. should be able to purchase a used one in the classifieds since everyone seems to be swapping.

im using regular automatic tranny fluid, stock gears, power fc banzai harness. i have a koyo radiator and now the tranny is directly connected to the stock tranny oil cooler (dont know if thats good or bad) but hell at 360 whp that shit is strong haha lol but im beating the crap out of it like crazy and so far so good........ 400 whp soon is all i have to say.

okay guys still beating the crap out of it with 360 whp lol my tires are bald now from wheel spin 1st and 2nd gear heh lol. give me one more week of beating it and ill say anything 360 whp and down is worthless for a manual swap

I have an automatic civic as a DD and I HATE not being able to shift. And my driving experience in that car is bumper to bumper rush hour traffic so you'd think I'd appreciate the automatic. But that's not the case. With that said I am very glad you enjoy your setup as this car is all about personal enjoyment. So how it going with the experiment? |
