Automatic Acceloration Problem

I've done a search, but haven't come up with any threads with the same question I have so here it is. I have a 94 Automatic and it seems that when I first give the car some gas the revs go up a bit before the car starts to move. Its done this for a while now too. My mechanic says its almost like I have a high stall converter installed, but that is highly unlikely. Does anyone have an idea if this is a problem or what the problem could be? Thanks for the help.

Just before 2500RPM are you starting to see the power? If so its the turbo spool you are feeling, the primary kicks in around there and brings the power up quite a bit. Again at about 4500RPM you'll see a nice kick when the secondary injectors come online and both turbo's are spooling.

Actually Kris, the secondary injectors come online at 3k rpms. And his question is totally different from your answer too. I would say that it has something to do with your torque converter, it sounds like its beginning to slip some along with the tranny (which means you may need to go get it rebuilt). That's exactly what mine did on my POS little '93 mustang LX when the torque converter went bad along with the tranny. I would say go change your ATF ASAP, I mean do a full drain and fill. That might help out some. I hope this helps out in some way.

how many miles on the tranny? slipping could be a sign of impending trans failure. eventually what happens is the engine will rev as if in neutral and the car will not go anywhere. wouldn't hurt to have the trans serviced-replace the fluid with a high quality synthetic. examine the old atf for color, odor, and debris.

Sounds like your tranny is about to give. A high stall converter shouldn't create any lag in torque/HP transfer ONCE the brakes are "de-pressed". Check your fluid level. It may be a little low.

Maybe time to replace the filter?.

The tranny has about 105000 on it and had the fluid changed last July. The fluid that came out looked horrible almost looked like fresh regular oil. It was barely red. I had just gotten the car the end of May before that too. I geuss the fluid may never have been changed in it before I had it changed. If the torque converter goes do I need a new torque converter or a new tranny altogether? Again thanks for the ideas and keep them coming. Also how much would a rebuild cost?

It depends where you get it done. Tranny rebuilds aren't too much, it is expensive but not horrible. Rebuilds run aroune $1000 give or take dependsing where you go get it done at. Then the torque converter is extra I believe. But before you go shopping for rebuilds, etc. I say go flush your tranny and refill it with fresh ATF. Then see if it makes any difference, if it doesn't at all then your gonna have to shopping for rebuilds.

i own an auto fd as well.I would say rather than rebuilding the auto if its busted.Nows the time to swap to a 5 speed.
If and when my auto mpv tranny goes out.LOL.
Im most definatly changing over to a 5 speed.
