Automatic 3rd Gen question

Hello,

I have a 93 RX7 Automatic. I was planning on doing alot of Mods to the vehicle to up the horsepower as well as take care of the reliability issues. I'm curious about something before I go and spend al my hard earned money on something that will only be a pain in the @$$ in the end. This is what I planned on doing:

I'm going to do some upgrades on my 93 RX7.

1. New Engine ( Large street Port )
2. Vacuum hoses
3. PWR Radiator
4. Tansmission cooler
5. New AST
6. Greddy Titanium catback
7. Midpipe and downpipe
8. Efini Y-pipe
9. Extreme Fuel system (RX7 Store)
10. Apexi Power FC + Commander

Will all this work with an automatic. Or will I risk detonation. Is there anyway I can safely upgrade the power of the vehicle without changing it to an automatic?

id put the pfc before the midpipe. you will want to be able to tune your car before putting a midpipe on. you may need this as well if your gonna put a large street port on the motor.

oh, the auto tranny sucks. i have an auto, and i plan on doing a 5speed conversion someday. also the auto tranny can only hold about 300whp. you add a large street port full exhaust ect, your auto tranny will be near its limits. when you get a pfc i believe you will loose your hold button function as well.

The 13B-rew can be modified identically to perform with either a Manual or Automatic transmission equipped FD. The Engine, in it of itself, is not sujected to any performance limits, when utilizing it with either powertrain.

do an auto to manual swap, at the same time you replace the motor. From the looks of it, u are on the right track with fuel and everything.

You might want to add a intercooler to your list of mods. I think a upgrade intercooler is pretty important in keepin your fd cool even more so with all the other mods that you are getting.

I talked to rotary sports in North Carolina, and they agreed; "I will lose my hold function with the PFC"... But they said they are currently tuning an automatic car that has a single turbo pushing 435 horse power. They did however tell me that the owner of the automatic (3rd' Gen) is switching over to a manual because his dream is to run a 10sec. or less quarter mile; Makes sense... I already got the engine and the aftermarket parts. An intercooler is on the way as soon as my bank account heals from the beating. I guess I will try my luck with the Auto Tranny ( I think just to satisfy my Curiosity, and because I can't afford a Manual tranny at this time ) It will be a learning experience for all. I will post all my progress w/pics and possible video. Does anyone think I could put a shift kit on an Auto Tranny? I've never heard of it, but it was proposed to me today as a possible reliability upgrade for the automatic. Thanks everyone for your comments.

Good luck finding a Shop that can do it. Actually, I think installing a shift kit would probably shorten Transmission and Differential life anyway.

Sorry to resurrect this thread but i didn't want to start a new one. Above gcbutter said something about a automatic transmission cooler- where can i buy one and on what site?

areXseven 04-08-04 02:21 PM

You can either buy an OEM Cooler (order from Ray at Malloy) or buy from aftermarket performance companies like B&M Transmission or Jegs, so forth ....
