Auto FD Shift Problems
My buddy has a 94 PEP, with an auto tranny. Car has 80K on it, and this morning he had a problem with shifting.
All started normally, as the car shifted up and down as he drove around town. The problem started as he was driving at about 60, and the car down shifted. He came to a stop light, and the car would not down shift, and stayed in what he believes is 3rd gear. If he manually shifts the car, it works fine, but with it in Drive, it will not up or down shift electronically. He checked the fluid level, and it was a little low, so he filled it to the normal level, and will be changing the fluid this weekend. Is there a filter he should change? Any ideas on where he can begin trouble shooting? He talked to Rotary Performance, and they mentioned an 8 prong connector next to the starter, but they don't do any work on auto FD's His mods are DP, Hi-Flo Cat, Intake, RB Dual exhaust, and Power FC with no Commander, tuned for 10psi. Any help is appreciated. Thanks |
I had a similar problem on my Buick. It happens once in a while and then goes away. Maybe he has a short anywhere in the ECU or speed sensor causing the car to get confused and not knowing what rpm or speed and therefore not able to put into the right gear. I have no clue but the problem on my Buick went away. Try checking the fuses maybe?

tell him to press the hold button on top of the shifter. This will turn off the hold light on the instrument cluster and stop the transmission from holding in third gear.
