AST Install - Already Searched!!
Sorry for the annoyance but I searched and searched and could not find a good "how-to" on installing my AST. The one I found was 11 bullet points talking about removing the wheel and the plastic trim and ish. I was hoping to find something more detailed.
All the articles I found on Rob Rinettes Site and the Steve Cirians site were about elimination. Any help in either finding a good article or advice on how to actually do it would be great! Happy snowing (if you are on the east coast) |
The AST is extremly easy to remove and install , there are three hoses , the over flow at the cap goes to the overflow bottle , the second one just under that on the side of the tank is connected to the nipple on the thermostat housing and the last one at the bottom of the tank connects to the nipple on the bottom tank of the radiator.

I don't understand the problem. Simply remove the hoses from the AST, and put them on the corresponding nipples on the replacement AST.
Be carefull not to drop any nuts or bolts when you remove the AST. You may not see them for a long time, or ever again. |
Also, have a small cup or something to stick under the AST to catch the coolant when you disconnect the hoses. Otherwise you'll have a nice mess under there.
Don't forget to refill the coolant system, and make sure you burp it properly |
no worries man....just dive into it.
it's one of the easiest jobs to do. |
only real thing you need to know how to do is drain the coolant and then know how to burp it after its installed...other than that its cake unless you have an upgraded radiator in which case you gotta find a spot to mount it with a bracket
|
can i get at all the bolts from above or do i have to remove the well trim like the directions said?
Thanks for the help |
While you're collecting how-to information, you should buy a shop manual.
|
how do you burp the system properly?

Huh?
Are they selling FDs at swap meets now? |
Why don't you just get an AST elimination kit and be done with it all?

Steve, I have the shop man. on CD I'll burn you a copy of that and the full Paris Hilton video. Plus I need to pick up that air filter. Maybe we can meet next week.

Can anyone clarify the issue of the bracket to which the base of the stock AST is attached please?
Do the upgraded AST's also attach to the same lower bracket? I know-pretty basic question, but nevertheless please help. All the info I'm able to find speaks to the hoses which are pretty self-explanatory but no mention of the bracket. Not sure if I use the same bracket the upgraded AST. I plan to go with the ASI AST. Thanks for the help. |
