Apexi Power Intake

I just recieved my Apexi power intake and Rx7store Polished intake piping (thanks Rx7store). And i was woundering if anybody was running this same set-up? I wanted to know so i can see some pictures and some "ENGLISH" install instructions. It dosn't look hard at all, ive dissassembled my intake box and rubber pipes many times. I've seen some old post about installing the intake, but none were really clarified on how to install the bracekts, does anybody have any current pictures of where the brackets are supposed to be attached? If not, don't worry about it, im sure I can do it on my own, Just wanted it to be done RIGHT, and have that professional look about it. Thanks, Aaron.

Just use the pics in the directions. Seems overwhelming, but when you get in there it will all explain itself.

Yea, those install instructions. Wish i could read them, but it dosnt look all that bad when you just "think" about what your doing. It wont be that big of a deal to install, but still, if anybody has some pics of them installed with the same combo i bought, feel free to post them up.

Please do. I have the same combo but ended up not using the brackets. So far no problems. :)

Here's a couple of pics from my "old" setup using the same setup as you just bought (minus the airpump :)).

BTW - I only used the long bracket for the Primary air filter and did not use any of the smaller brackets to "tie" the two together. The Secondary air filter didn't need any brackets, the use of the hard piping seems to have stiffened it up quite a bit (very little to no movement).

Good luck with your install.

thanks for all the pics guys...i'll be installing mine Tuesday, so i'll get some pics or something up to see how mine compare...btw, 93silverbullet-did you polish yours? or was it done professionally? either way it looks freakin amazing!

prrex4ever 09-17-06 01:06 AM

Thanks to everyone for the pics. I'm not using any of the brackets. The hard pipes seem to keep everything in place. 93 silverbullet, your engine bay is awesome. Great job, congrats.

I had it professionally polished and thanks for the nice comments. Like I said in my first post, this is my old setup. Most of everything you see has been sold. The motor went pop and I decided to go a different route (LS2 :) no flames please, just wanted to do something different).

Again good luck with your install.

Installed my intakes and Rx7store piping yesterday. Everything turned out great, only got 1 of the 3 brackets installed that they give you...the piping made some issues for the brackets. One question though. What is that solid metal spacer they send to you to be inserted into the upper hose? I got it in just fine, just woundering what it was for. Looks like it would restrict airflow so...maybe i answered my own question? You can really hear the stockers spoolin, and the BOV (Greddy) sounds more aggressive.

I have one question,

what are those two black hoses that connected to each apexi air filter`s piping for?
is it necessary to have that connected to the brown denso thing?
because mine don't have that. My air filters just directly connected to the air filter hoses from the turbos.

RX7LINK 10-12-06 02:32 PM

you don't really need any of the hoses connected to the air filter except the 2 big ones from the turbos. they're more for air pump recycling or various other engine vents for emissions.

the brown denso thing is ur stock blowoff valve. the one closer to the front of the car is for the 1st turbo, and there's one hiding behind is the bov for 2nd turbo. u can have them dump to atmosphere instead of back into the air filter

just make sure u plug the holes on the air filter

Great thread here guys, just fitted the same and would have left out the long bracket without this :D

spaceman_spiff 02-10-08 12:50 PM

my super intake looks just like that, except the pipe where the filter is curved towards the radiator is on the bottom and the pipe for the other filter is on top.

RLaoFD 02-10-08 12:57 PM

I had my intakes installed before I got the hard pipes so the fitment was almost impossible without modding the piping. I just whipped out the dremel tool and everything was fine. Love the setup.

I've seen pics of your setup - you don't have the regular Apexi intake, you have the intake that comes with the Apexi front mount. The front mount kit has little room for the intake, so Apexi made a special intake for it that fits. The big difference is the hard pipes - the regular Apexi FD intake uses the rubber accordion intake tubes.

Probably a previous owner of your car bought the intake from someone with an Apexi front mount when that person went single.

I've noticed that they were two different intake setups for our car from Apexi and i didnt know why. It almost made me jealous to see the hard pipes go all the way back, and i almost thought i bought an old version. Thanks for the info Dale!

I have a question about this same setup. When you disconnect the stock airbox you disconnect seven hoses. With the Japanese instructions I am going off of pictures. They only show reconnecting six of the hoses. What do you do with the hose marked "N" on their diagram (It's the hose that comes out the right side of the stock airbox) Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Valkyrie 04-13-11 09:18 PM

Congrats on paying $350 for an air filter that has to be replaced every 15,000 miles.

But I guess you would have had to read the Japanese manual to know that it's not washable.

K&N for the win.

JTFD 04-13-11 09:35 PM

Didn't answer my question, but seeing as how my fd has 29k original miles, i can live with 15k before replacement. Would still love to know about that seventh hose if anyone knows.
