i was told that the harness plugs in underneath the steering wheel. with the harness do i still have to splice into the ECU wires? or is splicing into the ECU wires just for the O2 reading.

splicing the ecu wires is just for the o2 sensor, the harness will do everything except that.

Good timing... I just installed an apex auto timer about 15 minutes ago. The harness plugs in right under the steering wheel. If you remove the black plastic covers (one has the vent and the other goes around the steering column), you will see it. It is right behind a blue three inch flat plug. I had to disconnect a lot of wires before I got the harness situated correctly. Here's a tip... my ignition harness was a biotch to get apart... I had to use a small screwdriver to depress the tab so I could pull the plug out. Everything was pretty tight in there, but after some rearranging it all fit together nicely.
As far as the other 3 wires... the gray goes to the parking brake switch, the white to the ECU for the O2 sensor and the black to the ECU ground. If you don't use the white, you may still have to take the balck to ground somewhere on the chassis for the timer to work. Good luck.
