apex seal springs
 

I was just wondering how long do apex seal springs last,,, and when should i really replace them. Im just in the middle of an engine build and wondering if i should replace them (i ask because my rotor housings had bad chatter marks and i was wondering if it was because of the apex seal springs been weak)??

Replace them they get week and the ends scrub down .Replace sideseal springs as well .

Ok but my apex springs have only been in the motor 4 years and have only done 20,000 miles. Would you still change them because they all look the correct shape and dont have to much end wear? (side seals have done like 80,000 they still look ok but if its recommended that you change them then i will)

Honestly, if you are taking the time to open up the motor, why not just replace them all? No sense doing a rebuild only to possible to a half job by only saving $60-80.

However, if you are trying to save on money; at 20k miles they should be ok to reuse. I would replace the side seal ones for sure if they have 80k on them.

dude If you actually took the time to open the engine do it right. My personal opinion is once oppened everything gets replaced.

In my opinion it would be a mistake not to replace them. They are not that expensive. Metal fatigues from repeated flexing and the ends where they lock into the apex seals do get some wear. As for seals; unless the motor was very recently built and failed for some other reason such as someone else's build error, I will not reuse ANY seal.

ahhh right,, i think your right im putting quite alot of money into new bits probably no point in skimping out on simple springs that might make a world of difference. thanks again guys
