Apex Intake Question
Can any cone shaped filter be used with the Apex Intake? As long as it has the 3'' outlet on the back???
I searched and looked at pictures but can't tell. It almost seems like it mounts differently but I have never seen it in person, so I can't tell. Thanks |
I'm pretty sure it mounts differently than a regular 3 inch filter. It has screws in in that connect to the under side of the filter.

Thats what I was afraid of.
Where can you buy replacements then? *EDIT* shit just found replacements for 90 bucks a piece. |
Fumanchu
where did you find those? i want to mount the filter directly on to the intake pipes without having those other hoses attached to the apex filters? can i not just buy some apex filters without the other 2 outlets on there ? (just the filters) |
i mean the pipes coming off the housing like this.(see pic)
can i not just directly bolt some apexi filters on there instead of having the silver housing? Do the breather hoses have to be there can I not just blank them off ? sorry for all the Qs shaQ |
shaq, I have a set of APEX'i intakes for sale.

Took me quite awhile to figure out what you are trying to do. No the Apex filters will not just hook up to the stock intake hoses. A lot of air filters connect by using a lip with a clamp or silicone couplers that you can clam p down, meaning the air filter has to have a lip coming off of it that matches the size of the intake pipe. The size of the stock intake pipes is 2.5" not 3". You can pick up a universal filter that has a lip from K&N, you also might be able to get one from Apex. The metal part is the adapter to connect the Apex filters to the intake hoses, and the 3 outlets go to the air pump, CRV, and BOV. You can cap off or weld off all three and vent the CRV and BOV to the atmosphere. If you have a catalytic converter you need the air pump, it would be a good idea to connect that hose back into the filter, or burchase a seperate air filter for it, or get a midpipe and remove the air pump completely.

You could put 3inch filter on it.. I did..
I put the blitz SS filters on to my apexi intake for their FMIC.. I also have M's polished intake with their special K&N filter forsale.. |

It looks like it doesn't use a flange like other systems but rather screws in to the outside lip. *EDIT* do you have pictures of your M intake your selling? |
Hey! That's my pic. :D
I've seen replacement filters that bolt on like Apex'i's for under $20. Can't remember where I saw them but it's worth a look. Beats the crap out of $70 each. |
Dave, yes, these are your filters I currently have in my car, but I'm getting PFS IC & airbox sistem so I wont have any need for them anymore :p:

If you want to take those pipes off you can. Just pull them off with pliers and use those metal electical box tabs to cover the holes (the things that look like flat quarters). Use some type of epoxy or jb weld to hold them on. Its very easy and cost like $1.

Cool, while we are on the subject of intakes ( i don’t want to start a new thread)
Any1 know what intake pipes these are and where they can be purchased from ? thanks in advance ShaQ |
Shaq.. those are the same pipes that cruiser posted up above. They're only sold with the Apex'i FMIC kit for the twins. That's the big reason it's so much more expensive than the make kit for a single.
And if I'm not mistaken, you can purchase Cruiser's set (that used to be my set, that used to be RX7Elmo's, that used to be someone elses) |
can i use this intake with a single turbo? if not direct bolt on can i modify it?
|
You wouldnt want to use these filters with a single turbo as there are two, and you only need one air filter for a single turbo, also the piping is 2.5" and most of the single turbos you would upgrade to you would want 3" or even 4" inlet air filter.
