Anyone of you guys use a COSTCO battery in your FD?

Just wondering if they are any good. I know they are cheap, but did you have any issues with them. Need a new one soon. What size did you get and how much and how long have you had it?

skunks 03-20-03 11:19 PM

The only issue is that you might need to extend the positive connector since the ones I buy (the grey ones) seem to have the battery terminal a little too close to the middle. Other then that, they seem to be great. I never had one die on me so far and they have great CCA.

Since they are water filled, you should have the stock batter box to cool it down. I did not and the acid corroded parts under it. Spend the extra money on a sealed one or a gel filled better yet.

Yes a sealed battery would be better but he is asking about costco batteries and in a pinch, they will work :D As for the other issue about when batteries heat up, they do give you a bit more charge, although since your alternator is running, this is kind of a mute point ;). Also, you are right where they may boil over and corrode the underneath, although it has never happened to me.

RX7 RAGE 03-21-03 11:13 AM

doogie 03-21-03 04:35 PM

RX7_rage, what brands sell the 51r...Does CostCo Kirkland batteries have that size and do you need a kit so that it fits? And what was wrong with Interstate?

Nathan Kwok 03-22-03 01:55 AM

I'm using a Kirkland (Costco) battery right now (standard size). It works, fits normally, has lasted for about 2 years now, what can I say?

Costco carries Optima batteries? How much?

My car had a Costco/Kirkland battery when I bought it. It never leaked or corroded.
It was still going strong when I decided to swap it for an AC Delco 51R on a TurboJeff batterey tray.

I think the Costco/Kirkland (made by Johnson Controls) is a much better battery than the Exide or GNB crap you get from the auto parts chains.
In fact I would take a Costco/Kirkland over a Fry Hard or Shiterstate any day.

For a conventional type batterey, AC Delco is all I would consider.
They are hard to find & expensive but excellent quality.

Of course a Hawker Energy Odyssey PC1200MJ is about the best you can get, but for huge $$.

For low bucks the Costco/Kirkland batterey is excellent.
To get better you need to spend more than twice the money.

I got my 51r battery from sears and you don't need a kit to make it work.

Does the Costco/Kirkland battery need a modified tray or you can you use the stock ones?

93blackrx 03-22-03 11:12 AM

costco is the shit. I got my dry cell (red top) battery from there, only thing is I had to buy it in a pack of 12.

Costco/Kirkland Item# 207140 fits perfectly.
A good choice for the money.

However, I do recommend you look into an AC Delco Professional 7 Year batterey 24R7YR.

http://www.acdelco.com/html/pi_batt_prof.htm

At $90, they are the best sub $100 batterey worth the extra money.

RX7Elmo 03-22-03 05:30 PM

i've run a costco batter in my FD. it's the 51 size. I believe it's the exact same one used in civics and integras woohoo.

It was only 39 bucks and has a 2 year warrenty
