Anyone know the spring rate of the '99 spec?

Anybody know the stock spring rates of the '99 spec? Apparently they were different but I can't find what they are. Mazda Motorsports doesn't know.

I'll check at the house - I've got one of the later dealer brochures from Japan, and I'll also check the Brian Long book.

Trying to see if they're stiffer for an upgrade?

Possibly. Considering jumping from SS.

Arent the ss over 670 fr and 570 rear?
Wouldn't stock springs be stiffer? I think the 93 -95 springs were 106lb/in all around....

Stock 93-95 springs are 280/200 lb/in.

Jodeny 02-23-05 11:25 AM

Thats what I though but in dinkles book it states differently.

No, it states the WHEEL rate is 106 lb/in, not the SPRING rate. Two different things...:)

I've heard that the '93 models had stiffer suspension than the '94-95s. I always thought this meant both springs and shocks. Rynberg seems to be stating that the the 93's have the same springs as the 94's, is this true?

I've heard that Mazda does most suspension adjustments using the shocks, but I was under the impression that the RX-7 changed spring rates between 93 and 94.

I believe the spring rate is the same for 93-95. Only the shock valving was different. 93 models had stiffer shocks for all models including the R1. The 94-95 models and the R2 had softer shocks.

If anyone can find that original Mazda web release on the Spitit R, i believe it had the metric spring rates in it.

Whoops- sorry I'm retarded. Thanks for clarifying this for me, I appreciate it.

The '93 R1 also had a "hard" suspension with different bushings. If you look in the parts microfiche files, you'll see "hard" and standard listed for bushings and various control arms.

Are the "hard" bushings the same as the "40% stiffer" bushings sold by MazdaComp?

Just got done doing some digging - went through the 2002 Japanese dealer brochure and the Brian Long book - couldn't find anything about spring rates. Sorry!

Not to my knowledge. These are OEM bushings, available directly from Mazda.
