Anyone know of any issues putting the fuel additives for smog check?
 

Gonna get a smog on my FD in the next few days and wondering if anyone had any issues with putting the fuel additives for the smog check? Problems? Issues that one has experienced? Brand recommendations?

Ya, but I'm looking at those off the shelf products you can buy at your local car parts store. Just want to know if they are any good.

Don't buy those stupid off the shelf things. They usually do the same thing as the alcohol at 10x the price.

Can't you do a smog test first before you go for the actual "Smog Check"?

If so, why not check to see if you car is going to fail or not. Then you can see if you need to add something to your car to get it to pass.

Just remember if you do put any additives in like alcohol to drive conservatively just to be safe for that tank.

My personal procedure to get my fairly heavily modded FD to pass is:

1) Run tank down to about 1/4
2) Add 1 gallon of denatured alcohol from Sears
3) Warm up car VERY well. (at least 30 minutes of highway driving if possible)
4) Drive immediately to test and pass :)
5) Go straight to gas station and fill up with highest octane
6) Drive nicely on that tank until it's empty
7) Fill up with high octane and resume usual boost activities

Good advice Wargasm, esp. the part about driving easy till the alcohol is gone. We had a rail car here in Washington full of denatured alcohol catch fire a month or so ago. The EPA was'nt even concerned, cause they said it burns with almost zero emissions

Will the alcohol help a car pass that has a midpipe?
