Anyone here running Drysump for their FD?

Just wondering if anyone here is running drysump'd FD. If you are, please share with us your set up and where you are mounting the sump tank.

Thanks!

I wish. That would definitly be a mod I would look into if kits were readily avaliable.

I think the only people are the 20B people and the *real* racers. There is a thread in the Race section by someone named Rob (iirc) who is running a 13b PP NA on a 20B chassis. I believe he is prepping for a GT* SCCA class.

Might want to go check SCCA forums and look for guys racing rotaries in Production and GT classes to see what they are running. Or get in touch with the race shops that prep these cars for those classes and see what they've done in the past.

Hope that helps. Maybe Howard C can provide some input since he raced GT.

After speaking with you, Herblenny, I'd be interested in finding out more about this too.

Why are you interested in a dry sump, I'm curious? Are you having problems with oil starvation under cornering? Seems like weight transfer effects from oil sloshing would be negligible on a car as heavy as the rx7, and being able to lower the engine a couple inches would also be minimally helpful. I don't claim to be an expert on dry sump but I was involved in making a custom dry sump for an FSAE car and I'd like to hear what the attraction is for an rx7.

Just doing some research on so that I could prepare my 20Bs ;) (higher oil flow than any stock system).

Another reason for asking is because I'm trying to think of a best place to put the sump kit tank and also running OMP with the Drysump kit that Mazdacomp sells. I recently found out that it does not have OMP port or oil return lines. Which will be a slight problem but I wanted to know exact modification that was needed to fix the issues.

I also found out that its reasonable to use stock front cover and convert it to drysump. If anyone have done this, I would love to see some pics and spec.

With the amount of power/intended use, it seems that the amount of money you would spend would be unjustifiable.

Over on NP, Lynn E. Hannover has talked in detail about his SCCA prepped racecars, including his drysump setups. Im sure he would be more then happy to help you out with this.

Thanks.. I looked into NP site and few little info was written. I've emailed mr. hanover and hope he'll respond. I've talked to another GT3 Racer in Florida back in 05-06 and he recommended the use of drysump on 20b.. Also people at Mazdacomp.. but I'm sure they just want to sell one:)

I posted a similar thread to this today and then found this on search. :D

I'm asking the same question: where do you put a 2-gallon sump tank on an FD? I need to go dry-sump but that engine bay is really cramped. My car is street/strip so it's tough to justify putting a tank in the passenger compartment...
