Anyone have the same cap problem....?

:(
Ok, I bought my AST from Mazdatrix yesterday, put it on last night, and this morning when I got to work, I opened the hood just to double check stuff, and the Cap on the AST is leaking from the Outer Ring. Did anyone else have this problem? If so, which cap did you replace it with? or is it probable that I recieved a defect ast? Any insight would be appreciated. This is a problem I have to have fixed by friday. Thank you.

come on ya'll some's gotta have something? did anyone have problems with the pettit style AST's? warping problems from manufacturing, anything?

Yes!
I have.
First make sure its not the cap. I had one that had bad pressure cap.
Second, Make sure the caps on correctly.. I'm sure you know that.

Also make sure the outer ring lip on the AST is nice and smooth. IF not, it will leak.

I prefer the ast from the ones rx7store used to sell. They and very nice billet cap necks.

Can you take a pics of ast neck?

I can't at the moment, I might be able to tonight..... I bought mine from Mazdatrix.... I looked around the seals, they looked fine..... but I might replace the cap anyway, just to be safe...... What cap is it that replaces it? It's bigger then the stock one....

I had one of those generic caps that you could buy from any auto parts store. I think it leaked from the same area. Go pick up an extra one and try. If it does the same, you know its the ast.

Also look to the side of the neck where the cap attatches to. Its hard for me to explain... you know when you put the cap on, you would have to push it down and turn. As you keep doing this it wears out the crappy neck area. If its too loose, it might not seal well. But being new, this should be an issue. Also that same part on the cap might be bent. Make sure all are even.

Good luck.. I'm not sure you know what i'm talking about.. I'll try to post some pics if I have time tonight..

Yep makes perfect sense :bigthumb: I'm gonna try a couple things, see what happens. I'll post mroe as I learn more... thanx!

Okay, this is Weird..... I rotated the cap 180 deg, so the lock faces the opposite direction, drove it up to operating temp.... and from what I can tell, no leak now.... WTF? I guess thats good though.... lol
