Anyone have a Apexi IHI RX-6 Turbocharger
Has anyone installed or know of anyone who has installed a Apexi IHI RX-6 Turbocharger I am looking at the one at RX7store for like $2000.00. Do you think it is worth buying or should I spring for the $3500.00 one? I take that the more expensive one is larger.
I just got my RX6 a couple of weeks ago and I love it. I don't think you'll find a more hotly contested turbo though. Just check some of the recent threads here and in teh Single Turbo Forum. People love them or hate them. But I don't think I've read any posts by anyone that actually owns one that doesn't like it.
I didn't check the store site, but I'm assuming the $2000 is probably just for the turbo, and the $3500 is for the whole kit. You'll probably need the whole kit.

The lower price is just for the turbo.
Excellent turbo for street/auto-x use, capable of 375+rwhp with stock-level, fast spool up. Cheuk in Seoul is putting down 400+ rwhp with a large port, on 89 octane supposedly.
Some may look down on on the total peak hp capability, but the RX6 offers a nice, usable pwerband, minimal lag and, if you sit back and think about it, it gives you the same power levels as a 911 Turbo, in a signicantly lighter car to boot. I see no need to upgrade, unless I go all out.
You might want to take a look at the GT35/40 kits, more details in the Single Turbo section.

The turbo is available by itself in case you spit an apex seal thru the turbo and break it, rather then have to buy a complete new kit.
The $3500 kit comes with:
1) the turbo
2) down pipe
3) wastegate
4) air filter/intake
5) exhaust manifold
6) related hardware
The $2000 buys you:
1) the turbo
Depending on your IC, you may have to fabricate new intake pipes, and you will have to buy a BOV. (they say you do not need one for this turbo, but I would get one anyways)

S-AFC doesn't work well for anything on the FD unless you already have a chipped ECU and want to adjust the fuel. It will not be enough for a single turbo setup. A PowerFC, AEM, Haltech or another stand-alone system is a much better way to go. You need bigger injectors and a fuel pump, too.
