rx8 seats are the shit, one of my favorite seats there are.

The RX-8 seats are very comfortable, but i seem to be a perfect fit for the FD seats. The side supports fit just snug against me, so i'm not worried about aftermarket seats.

Anyway, i don't think they look that bad.

Does it require any fabrication??

Yea there was also a black fd with rx8 seats at rotorfest last year. Sorry you cant really make out the seats but it was the only pic of the car I could find in my folder. This was at the mini meet right before rotorfest. My opinion, the seats looked great in the car and actually looked like they belong there. Being an rx8 owner, id also agree that the seats are very comfortable.

what about an fc would they fit in there?

yup ive seen them in an FC before, the FC is roomier than the FD too

looks good in a fd
should look badass in a fc also

ive seen em in an FC, they fit well but its too modern looking for the FC, looks out of place a little. its fine in the FD cuz the FD is more modern looking.

and speaking of late...

when using a t66 turbo in an fd, the g-force from the acceleration tends to pin ones body to the seat. in doing so, the body tends to flatten out and become wider--this is where the rx8 seats come into play.

let's start by hacking them up.

everything blue, get rid of. on those 2 brackets, i ran a drill through the holes and whacked them off with a hammer.

that locating dowel i zipped off with the sawzall.

hokay...
the bolt hole spacing on the fd rails is about 12.5"
it's something like 16" on the rx8 rails, so we're gonna have to build stuff.

if you notice the angle of the front mounting points on the fd rail, they're at a different angle than the nearly-vertical rx8 rails...no problem, a few very precision whacks with a big hammer took care of them.
***note*** they bent VERY easily. doesn't give me much faith in the strength of these seats.

Any idea what the leather seats from the rx8 weigh? I think they would be the perfect addition to a red w/ black interior if you could find some leather Black w/ red accents rx8 seats.

i got a stick of 1/4" flat bar at home depot and used some bolts i had laying around. notice the holes are oval? this wasn't a precision job, so i gave myself room to wiggle the thing around in there.

i HATE trying to hold one end of a loose bolt with a wrench, while trying to tighten the nut with another, so i welded some bolts through the holes and ground down the back side. that way, they're ready to bolt once they're in the car and no fumbling with the wrenches.

now the new brackets don't lay down flat on the floorboard--there a nub of carpet in the way, so i just welded (poorly) a bunch of washers on to space them up a bit--worked out just fine.


***btw, that gouge on my thumb hurt like a bitch!! i do volunteer work at a horeback riding place for disabled kids and i got a nice blister scooping up all that horseshit. looks worse in the pic than it actually is, though. carry on ***

once the holes were drilled and the bolts welded and ground down, i layed the mounts in the car for a test-fit. notice the mismatched bolts? i told ya i used what i had laying around :p:

i had make small adjustments, but all in all, they pop right in. tighten them up, and the front rails are done.

there is now ZERO clearance between the door panel and the seat.

that's all i have time for right now. i'll do the writeup on the back mounts whenever i get some more time.

it's time to build my downpipe :)

Thanks for posting some writeup on this. Can you tell me what you think about the head clearance between the FD and the RX7 seats? I'm 6 2" and I have long considered the RX8 seats

..but my head is about a 1/2" from the roof. If anything I'd like to get more clearance so I can get a helmet in the car while it's on my head :)

I did a search a while back because someone posted a set of leather Rx-8 seats for sale on this forum. They were a steal at like $350 for both (in NJ). I was gonna buy the seats and put them in my Rx-8 (since all the leather Rx-8 seats are heated) and take my cloth Rx-8 seats out and put them in my 7.

I did a search and found others have done this. The only note is that the seat rails on the 8 don't line up so you have to weld the 7 rails to filt the 8's seat frame. Its been a while since I read the write up but I believe the 7's attachment points are slightly closer together than the 8's. Its not a big deal and is a very simple mod.

In the end, I decided to just purchase race seats since I like the large bolstering of the race seats versus the good but not great boltering on the Rx-8 seats.

Looks good man. Do you know if these seats rub up on the door panels when pulled all the way back?
