Anybody make their manual fan mod "automatic"
Anybody know how to make the fans turn on a a specific temp? I already have the fan mod and an aftermarket water temp gauge/sensor. I figure if I can put an switch which turns on at an adjustable voltage, I can wire it up to my water temp sensor to turn the fan on at any temp I desire. Anybody know if this can be done with off the shelf electronic components?
Thanks! |
get a Power FC and a datalogit..it will do it for you with no wiring

Just use the Miata Thermoswitch. It will turn the fans on at 212F automatically with the stock ECU or any of the rechipped ones.

The Miata thermosensor sounds good. Anybody know what years or model numbers will work? $35 seems kinda expensive. The original thermosensor went bad a year ago and I replaced it with one from Autozone, I think it cost $17 or so.

Well, try autozone for a thermoswitch that fits Miatas.
[edit] just checked and they have a Wells 'Temperature Switch' for $12. I would check it out. |
Again, what year(s) fit?
|
I don't think they ever changed it, but I'd try 93-95 miatas ;)

You need the Miata Thermoswitch. I got mine from PartsAmerica.com, it was a Beck/Arnley #2011621 and cost $26.99. The electrical connector on the Miata thermoswitch is different than the thermoswitch electrical connector on the RX7, so that also needs to be changed. Go to your local pull-it-yourself salvage yard and get the thermoswitch electrical connector from a 90's Ford Probe (Mazda engine). If you're not sure how to identify the correct connector on the Probe, then purchase the Miata thermoswitch first and take it with you to the salvage yard. Then simple find the electrical connector that fits the switch. DO NOT get the thermoswitch from the Probe since it is NOT the lower temperature Miata thermoswitch. The thermoswitch on your RX7 is behind the thermostat housing and is the lower, black color switch. It is difficult to get to. I had to remove the alternator to get at it. Remove and replace the thermoswitch. Remove and replace the electrical connector. The work space is very tight so be patient. This is a worthwhile mod. |
if I have a power fc will the regular fan mod work? Is there another way to make them stay on after shut down?

Cooling Fan Switch or Temperature switch
WELLS TU146 That's auto zone part number. |
On autozone.com they list two "TEMPERATURE SWITCH"es for a 1995 Miata:
WELLS TU89 $11.99 WELLS TU253 $9.99 And one for a 1993 Miata: WELLS TU146 $34.99 Anybody know the difference? Are they interchangeable? Just did a double check and the TU89 is also the part they list for a 1993 RX-7?!?!?!?! |
