anybody have experience with Water Injection at the track?
I know the benefits of running water injection and I am very interested in running a water injection setup on my car. But does anybody here running water injection also have track experience while running their setup? If so could you please give your thoughts on how it performed, and if or if not you thought it was beneficial for you. A short and straight forward question so if I did make my question clear enough please ask me to elaborate on what needs to be. But I am mainly looking for water injections Intake temps, and all of the over benefits it could offer at the track.

Well the average track time is 20 to 50 minutes per session so first is to make sure you have enough water, and wherever the water is being held that it never goes empty through the turns or pulling Gs. I see no reason , why it wouldnt work. One may run it just to give a safe zone, since we know that heat kills especially worst at the track.

For example...what's a SUPER conservative CFM for the rotary at 15psi ...like 450 cfm? that's 12000 liters per minute...and a big water injector would be like .25 liters per minute(probably much smaller). So thats .0002% of the volume. Adding the alcohol is only there as a "combustion friendly" antifreeze. Pure water will give you the most cooling and most benefit...by burning the alcohol you are only wasting good oxygen that will burn better with the gas you're injecting :) But again...the volumes are pretty small. john [/B] |
Well, I do not know that I can give you anything other than a subjective opinion.
I have had the water injection on the car for about a couple of months. I have noticed nothing on the butt dyno. I.E. car has not lost any power. I have no real way of verifying temps, because I have not hooked up a gauge yet. I trapped 115, which is good for hight 11's. I did this with 13.5 PSI on a single turbo. (KKK27 Blitz Kit) The water injection worked flawlessly, and I could pretty much touch the cool side of the intercooler pipes after the run. So there you have it. Wish I could be of more help. :) |

jesuscookies, well do you recall what your intake temps from the track day based on the sensor from your PFC? I noticed you had one in the pictures of your setup
also, just in general, have you noticed lower intake temps due to water injection? Although I do know that it is getting hotter outside now with summer around the corner |

No track experience with my setup, however, I'll chime in re the intake temps.
Without water injection, my intake temps measured at the elbow with relocated stock sensor will rise several degC above cruise intake temps when boosting. With water injection the temperature will not rise. I don't see much of a temperture reduction over steady cruise intake temps unless the intake sensor has heat soaked. Under heat soak conditions the WI drops intake sensor temps fast. In theory, WI at the track should really keep internal combustion chamber hot spots under control without the need to run rich AFRs. |
Water Injection
I have over logged over 100 track (road course) events with various water injection systems (Spearco, Aquamist) and can tell you with great confidence its worth the money. I use it as an antidetonate. My intake air temps after my M2 IC and Aquamist injection system on the track are 10-20f above ambient as measured by my PFC. You WILL NOT MAKE MORE POWER with water injection unless you tune for it. This means more timing or leaner AFR ......however if you are looking for cooler intake charge temps, steam cleaning your rotor housings and rasing your octane, water injection is the shit..........

I've only ran alcohol at the track. Might as well gain a few extra ponies while your cooling the ait.
