Any way to determine production numbers?

I read that FD production started 12/91. I see my 7's production date is 01/92. I was just curious to see if there is any way to look up what # car mine was off the line. Don't know if Mazda kept that detailed of logs though...

I read Mazda made a relatively high amount of FDs early in 92, but it'd be neat to find out (for example of course) that my car is the 37th red, R1 that Mazda made for the US.

I doubt there are records this detailed... but thought it wouldn't hurt to ask. Didn't know if the VIN # held some sort of code that would give a clue to this...

The production numbers aren't that detailed. Here's the full numbers by year though:

That's what I figured... thought it was worth asking at least. Thanks all the same.

It does seem to be the last part of the VIN is a serial number - the lower the number, the earlier the car. This is why some of the TSB's show it affects VIN's of a certain number or earlier - the VIN is the sequence they came off the assembly line for the most part.

That's what made me wonder if this would be possible. Common sense says Mazda wouldn't randomly assigned VIN #s, rather some of the #s would be code for something, while others are just a unique ID number for the car. & it would make sense to just go in order of production to make things easier...

Are those production numbers 'total' or just USDM? (I know there is about 11,000 FD's shipped to the states/Canada, but how many 'total' were made?)

Ie, including Japan, AUS, NZLD, etc.

My friend and I both have white 94 touring's. His was made 2 months before mine. His VIN ended in 328 and mine was 355, so a number sequence makes sense.

Wow, my 94 VR PEP was 1 of only 159 made. When you look at it like that, our cars seem even more rare!
