Any tips on finding an FD at a dealership!?
 

Hi,
i'm shopping for an FD again,
and I would REALLY like to find one at a dealership,
preferably a 94, but 93's are good too,

but anwyays,
my problem is the only resource I have is autotrader.com,
and cars.com, and local newspapers.

I've only found a few good FD's at dealers,
and was about to buy one yesterday actually,
but they sold it to someone else who was offering
more money.

But anyways, if anyone knows of an easy way to browse dealers,
to find an FD that one might be selling, I'd very much
appreciate it if you'd let me know!

All I have to say is GOOD LUCK.

I found mine at a dealer...but it was more a stroke of luck/right time/ right place

why on earth would you buy an fd at the dealer?? the ones ive worked at have a knack for buying the biggest piles of junk, time after time.

Buying from a dealer i have alot more peace of mind
my last FD was a lemon, and I dont want to go through that
again. Sure there are some shady dealers out there,
but most are more scared of getting sued then they are
of selling a good car.

and if a dealer tries to jack you, you know you can
go back and complain.
When you buy from a private party(especially when
they give you a false adress), you're prettymuch screwed.

I'm sure someones gotta know of some sorta dealer directory
or SOMETHING???

I actually got a good deal on my FD which I purchased from a used BMW dealer. They gave it to me for 13K + 1700 for warranty with 64,000 miles on it....good compression, good condition. Dealer had no idea that it was an 'R1' and figured the suspension and oil cooler were aftermarket... that was their bad.

You can get a listing of mazda dealers nearby from mazda's site and call them from time to time.

Most dealers advertise on the net or the paper. I would check these places or setup a search agent so when something pops up, it notifies you.

Even in the current market condition, FDs are very rarely on sale at a dealer. When I had an oil change at my dealer recently, the sales person called me to see if I want to trade it in. It's hot commodity at Mazda dealers and they know it.

Having said that, I think dealers are a great place to buy used vehicles. They may not know much about the engine but they sure will find any frame damage or salvage title problems (typical lemon syndrome). Also, dealers are required to smog, check for clean title and perform a basic safety check by most state's laws. Don't always trust the independent used car dealers though. I drove a repainted FD from an indept dealer and later learned that it had frame damage from a Mazda dealer. The mazda dealer are on the look out for FDs so they can sell it for more. No matter who you buy it from, have it checked out by a good mechanic.

You can always ask to be put onto a wait list at the dealer so they can call you when they get one. However, this will probably mean a very high price since they know you've been waiting.

I think you can find a great deal right now from a private party. Lots of people are selling bc they need the $$. I would go that way but if you are willing to wait for one to turn up at a dealer and don't mind spending $1-2k extra for the piece of mind, go for it.

Also, ebay is a good source to find out on leads from 3rd party or indept dealer. There is a silver one for sale by an indept dealer right now. You don't always have to bid to buy the car. If you find one for sale nearby, check it out and make an offer. The seller will most likely close the auction if the sale goes thru. It's all legit.

Good luck. I got mine from a Mazda dealer as well. Just lucky I called them to ask if they had any and one just got in that day.

It was a lemon though... I'm very happy I have the car now, I really enjoy it, but it cost me a lot of money to get the way it is now.

Just make sure to find a 3rd party non-Mazda mechanic that knows a little about Rotary engines. Pay them to look it over before you put your money down. If the dealership won't let you have someone else look at it before you buy it, look else where.
